Error code 5d on Samsung washing machine

My 5D error was certainly a water heater error because I changed the thermostat for a more elevated value before the error occured. I have never used this value before and coming back to my usual value solved this error.

Samsung J845 error SE or 5E

I found the manual! The error is '5E' and, according to the manual, the fix is to clean the filter in the bottom front of the machine. But it took a bit more to fix my machine. Here is what I had to do...

First, use a coin to remove the cover on the bottom right hand corner of the front of the machine. Then you will find two cover or plugs, one big and one small. The small one is the 'emergency drain', the big one is the 'filter'.
Pull on the emergency drain plug and you will find that it is attached to a black rubber hose. Pull this out until it is fully extended, about 15cm. Then twist the plastic plug out of the end of the of the hose. Water should run out of the hose and (eventually) drain the bowl.
If no water comes out then the hose is either kinked or blocked. If the hose is fully extended then it is probably blocked. Twist and remove the big (filter) plug. A small barrel shaped filter is attached to the back of this plug. Lots of water will probably rush out if the drain hose is blocked. Make sure the filter is clean by washing it under running water.
Remove any debris that is in the cavity. When you look into the hole where the filter goes, there is a propellor right at the back, a small hole in the bottom and a larger hole on the left side. Make sure the is no debris in any of these places. Also make sure the propellor spins freely.
I had sand and small gravel filling the small hole in the bottom of my machine. It is nearly impossible to pick this out of the hole. However, this is the hole the goes to the black rubber emergency drain hose. Mine was completely blocked with sand, etc. I scraped what I could out of the top of the hole, but couldn't get much deeper than about 10mm. So I blew (very hard) into the black hose. It took some effort but eventually the sand and stuff burst up out of the hole.
To fully flush the hole and hose, I started the machine on rinse. The water starts to go into the bowl and after a few seconds water comes rushing down the hole in the left side of the filter cavity (and out all over the floor!) this also lets water go down the hole to the drain hose. I blew into the hose again a couple more times and the water bubbled up out of the hole and it flushed out the hose nicely.
The propellor was clear, but I can remember previously removing a hair pin from it, so make sure it is spinning freely and if not look for something stopping it.
Also check the hole on the left side. I found a curtain ring jammed up in there. It took sime getting out. I had to get a wire coat hanger and shape it into a hook that I could feed up the hole a little way. Then I was able to pull the curtain ring out. I could feel the ring with my finger, but couldn't get hold of it. When I got the wire hook on it, I had to pull hard to get it out, but it eventually came and (I don't think) I did any damage to the machine.
Once I had cleared everything out of the filter cavity, I made sure the water all flowed nicely. Then I put it back together and it has been working fine every day since.

I hope this helps others one day. I also have my manual again; if anyone else wants to check it out let me know.

Regards,
Greg

Samsung washing machine LE error

Hi there,

Press "end of cycle". Plug off the wall. Code can be an indication of several issues. The most common cause is over-sudsing in the machine. Overloading the wash with too much laundry may also cause the LE error code. Lastly, a breakdown in the signal between the microprocessor and the motor may cause that error code. This can occur if there is a loose wire, see that all wires are tightened.
(that information taken from a link).

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Didn't drain. Won't spin.

Hi Kat, let's see if I can help your with this. The washer will not spin when it senses water inside so we'll start first with the drain. When the machine was finished washing, did you hear the drain pump attempting to discharge water? Try selecting the "Spin Only" or "Rinse and Spin" cycle, you should be able to hear whether or not the drain pump is attempting to operate. If you do hear it running, but the water is not draining, it is possible that the drain filter is clogged. If you need instructions on how to clean the filter let me know. Otherwise, we'll move to the next step.

Dryer does not stop. time shows flashing rectangle. Is this normal

Hi There
I have this for you to read this should get you on the right track. Let me know how it went.
It seems to run forever If your dryer seems to run forever, it could be because of a clogged vent or internal ductwork. Your dryer may have an automatic cycle that turns off the dryer when the clothes are dry. It does this with a special thermostat or moisture-sensing system. Normally, this is what happens during an automatic cycle: The thermostat tells the dryer to heat until the interior of the dryer reaches a pre-set temperature--say 135 degrees. When the dryer reaches the pre-set temperature, the thermostat tells the timer to begin advancing. (If there's a moisture sensor, the timer advances only if the moisture content of the clothing is low enough.) The timer advances until the interior cools, then the thermostat tells the timer to stop advancing, and tells the dryer to start heating again. This cycle continues until the clothes are dry. But…if the vent is clogged, the dryer may never reach the proper operating temperature, so it doesn't send the signal to the timer and the dryer continues to run indefinitely, even if the clothes are completely dry. To fix the problem, clean the vent and/or internal ductwork.
Thank you for writing to fix ya.
Best Regards Richard
