Jenn air french door refrigerator broken by repair company

yes a 3 in one kit is primarilly used on older fridges that use the old freon(r-12) and sometimes needed a start cap to make them work.the newer fridges use a different freon(r-134a)and require a run cap to make them work.placing a start cap on a compressor that needs a run cap WILL DESTROY THE COMPRESSOR.the factory may or may not cover the repair.i would be on the phone with the company that installed this device and raise cain.i have been in this trade for some time now and am still amazed at the really stupid shortcuts that some companys make

Hi, my Jenn-Air #JF12089AEPO bottom freezer drawer is beeping consistently and the temperature reading shows 18 degrees Freezer Max Temp. There is also a dry frosty crust on most of my frozen foods.

Make sure the freezer drawer and the refrigerator door are shutting properly. Sounds like air is getting in causing the frosty crust. Also be sure to reset the controls back to the original mid-way settings and allow a day or so for it to balance, if you have turned the fresh food compartment down to a lower temp it may cause a similar condition.

I have a kenmore pro

Hi,
My first thought is that the control board has gone bad...that is why you cannot reset anything and turn the alarm off. So with that bad you basically can do nothing with it...diagnostics will not work either..

Unfortunately, unless you purchased an extended warranty, you probably have no coverage under warranty either.

New control boards should be available from searspartsdirect.com I tried to look up your part, but the model number you gave I think has one too many numbers in the second part. You have seven numbers and I think it should only have six...check the number and search for your model, then look for the control board.

A Tech. should be able to tell you for sure the problem in a few minutes, also, if you choose to go that route...

I will also say that an appliance just sitting can be very ******* them...moisture can get into them and with no internal air movement or heat it causes many problems, so because it has sat for so long it have have developed problems quicker then if you had used it the whole time...

Comment back if you have more questions...

I noticed this afternoon that

First check the basics.Inspect both freezer and fridge door. Are both getting properly closed.Or any of the door is not getting completely closed.----------- But if both doors are getting properly closed, then this problem relates to faulty/ weak compressor.---------

The compressor is weak. The compressor needs to be replaced.-------------- The working procedure of your refrigerator unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located.------------ But as you mentioned that food freezer is defrosting, this indicates that freezer not cooling properly, this indicates problem with compressor. When compressor cools the freezer section then fridge section gets cold.If freezer section is not getting properly cold then fridge section will not cool properly/.So the problem relates to compressor.---------- In the compressor there is a refrigerant called FREON.With the help of this Freon the compressor cools the freezer section.Freon is a gaseous type cooling agent. The compressor will stop cooling when coolant gets leaked from its chamber.--------- Again recharging the Freon is possible, but the cost for that recharging is approx the cost of new compressor. So its always advisable to get compressor replaced.Because new compressor has warranty for few years.------------------ You can get required parts from from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site. --------- -----------

But before going for compressor replacing.Try this reset procedure and see, if that helps:---

The manual defrost reset procedure is as follows : ----
First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. Then check, it will take approx 4 hours to regain/ run its cooling cycle. If you still get same problem, then its compressor problem. It has to be replaced.-----------

This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.
