Philips DVDR3380/05 DVD Recorder Questions & Answers
Region
I recently had the same problem. It means that it can only be played on a DVD player from another region of the world, like France. It will never work on your DVD player & must be returned (I had ordered mine online & had a tough time getting my money back - it educated me to verify every purchase compatible to US Region).

Eject tray will not open when pressed, just comes up with blocked.
The small slot on the underside of the machine seems to be basically there to provide access to the manual opening lever (the white nub). That white nub popped the drawer open straight away for me. So now I have drawn an arrow on the underside to remind me which way to move the lever next time it happens! You can also move it the other way to get the disk to play. I also think you should never leave the machine without a disk in it - ejection of the empty drawer seems much harder for some reason. And possibly the ejection works better if you use the stop control on the remote instead of the eject button on the front of the machine.

Unknown disc error and whirring sound!
Do you leave the unit on all day and night on standby?
If this unit gets to hot you can experience this problem I suggest that you turn the power OFF totally until the unit cools down and try again. Normally 15 mins is enough.

When i try to play a dvd i get wrong region code
When recording the DVD, in the menu, make sure that the region is set correctly for your area... if this is incorrect when the DVD is burned, it won't work on other players- you can find the option in the setup menu, but here is a link to make your machine region free:

Door will not open
Try removing the power lead completely and then connecting it again. This might work...

The problem of your unit is the mechanical assembly. To resolve this problem, applying a small amount of grease in the sliding bracket can resolve the problem but be sure not to put grease in the pulley. In order to do this you should remove the cover of your dvd, then you can see the dvd rock remove the screw holding the dvd rock so you can pull out the whole assembly, but be very careful because you may damage the flex cable if you already remove the assembly try to look at the bottom and you can see the railings then you can apply grease. Note be sure to unplug unit before removing the cover. Good day and best regards.
