HP Compaq Presario SR2180NX (RK548AA#ABA) PC Desktop Questions & Answers
Changing Vista to XP Pro on a Compaq Presario SR2180NX Desktop PC
SR2180NX has the Vista 32Bit OS from HP. The restore partition will always put Vista 32Bit back on if you use it. Windows XP can only be put on from scratch and I have done it while I still have Vista installed. One problem: there are no XP drivers under SR2180NX webpages. Do your research on the parts that are installed in the 2180 and any other HP machines that have the Windows XP operating system as the OEM OS. But First, check the Intel Site for the 945 chipset drivers (include the SouthBridge, too) under XP. Get them downloaded to a CD and burn the rest of the drivers you find for XP on the same CD. This way, you will have them ready when you are performing the down-grade to windows xp. After you are done with the XP install, you will still have access to the files & work you had done while in Vista. The Vista files are still readable. You might want to consider getting the Windows 7 Professional (not basic) available October 22, 2009. AND you will still have to get the Intel Downloads for Win7 any way, so why not make it a project and make it last for a few years. XP Support stops in 2014.

Beeps when is turning on
You need to be more specific... How many beeps? Did you add any new
hardware? Were you doing anything inside the case? Does it boot up at
all? Are there any messages on the screen?

What causes a blue screen?
ram issue if safe mode. otherwise turn apps on one by one to see which one is causing it. u can also try load the drivers one by one in safe mode to see maybe a driver is crashed or conflicting with some system code.

No video response and beep code, one short and one
On HP, one short and then one long beep usually means a problem with memory. Open up the case and try reseating the memory. If you have more than one, you can try removing them one at a time, trying to boot up each time and see if you can isolate which one is bad.

I want to add a video card upgrade to my Compaq
NO you would need a extra power supply or upgrade your power unit to at least a 500 WATT see Hp
jips its
customers and puts a 350 watt or a 400 watt in there systems so then you are not going to have the connectors to power that card in the
pci E slot. So you will need to
unfortunately upgrade the power supply. its for your
benefit to do so anyhow.
