you should be able to

how many aux inputs does your tv have?(vid1,vid2 etc.)there must be a set of component inputs you can use to hook up your player. Another thing you can do is to hook up your player using the S-Video connector if one is provided on both devices(you will need the cable for s-vid).

on the side of the tv mostly there is a button for dvd mode you will have to press that button to reach in dvd mode.if no such button then its the cables fault or the wires are not connected properly just check out this link for connections

do you have a newer lcd tv. Id say look into getting an upconverter,itll play your dvds at 1080 :) better picture.

you could have a dirty laser lens try a lens cleaning disc. if that does'nt work you have either a bad laser or spindle motor.
