if your trying to play dvd r or dvd rw ( copy dvds ) some dvd players wont play them. but if its original dvds your trying to play, try using a lens cleaning kit

I have same problem with es40v - f60 error with no response to troubleshooting protocol. This machine also was used very little & also has a history of turning itself on. Panasonic used to make high quality products. A shame that their products are no longer trustworthy. I can understand that machines break - i'm very frustrated to learn replacement parts are not available. Guess i need to re- think brand loyalty.

Sounds like ya got big problems as it's the mother board in the tv that has carked itself, gunna cost more fer a new board than for a new tv. Best git down to the store and git yerself a new one for xmas.

These Panas normally 'turn on' with an on/off switch on the remote, or the unit itself, not with 'codes' ....

Please follow the steps : To change the player region code
1. Be sure players drive is empty (nodISC)
2. Enter following key sequence using remote control:

Enter, 6, >=10, <<, 00F2, Audio, 8, * requested region code here (1-8) *, Subtitle, 1

3. Player will reset and requested region code will be set.
- For example to set region code to 3 press: "Enter, 6, >=10, <<, 00F2, Audio, 8, 3, Subtitle, 1"

To set the player to RCE proof region free
1. Be sure players drive is empty (nodISC)
2. Enter following key sequence using remote control:

Enter, 6, >=10, <<, 00F2, Audio, 8, 1, Subtitle, 4

3. Player will reset and set to "region-free" and "RCE-free" mode

To restore players factory region code
1. Be sure players drive is empty (nodISC)
2. Enter following key sequence using remote control:

Enter, 6, >=10, <<, 00F2, Audio, 8, 9, Subtitle, 1

3. Player will reset and set to factory region code

HelloIt seems that the Laser Pickup unit has some troouble with it. Just inser an audio CD and see whether the player reads the disc. If it reads, try with an MP3 disc. If these tow types of discs go with and not with DVD disc, make sure that the Laser Pickup Unit has the trouble. It has to be replaced with same type and number. Actually this is a very skilled work, as you have to disassemble and reassemble the DVD mechanism If you have confidence, and have all tools to do this work, you can do it by yoursef. Otherewise, get this set repaired, either by any experienced service technician, or by the Authorised Service Center for Panasonic at your town, I recomend you to get this set repaired by its authorised service center itself. OK.
