I concur with Lightnbaby.... had same problem... my TV LNT4042HX/XAA took 10 min to start sometimes... the capacitors on the power supply board had bubbles on top 4 of them all 10/1000Uf. Samsung wanted to charge $220+ to have a guy come out and fix. J&J parts (samsung vendor) wanted $108 for a new board. I replaced the 4 capacitors for $4.68 and the TV works fine now!!!!!

The issue is with the main board circuits on your set not detecting signal on HDMI ports or selecting those ports. How about your other inputs - do they work? Have a feeling they also will be dead. If course you can always feed the dvd rf signal to your set but the audio and video will not be up to current standards but it will work like that.

I assume the sound is still there.The most common (but not always) solution to a white screen is to replace the T-Con Board. Check your T-Con board before ordering to ensure you get the correct one. It should be something like "81-01306A"

It is most likely the inverter, here is a trick to check it. Turn the tv on a channel where you have audio(sound)
Take a flashlight or a lamp with a bare buld and shine it on the screen. Look very closely at the screen, if you see a video image your inverter is bad.

A screen is the most expensive part of any flat screen TV, or monitor. My best advice is to take pictures, and put it up on eBay. Warranties don't cover broken screens (almost never) and the cost of getting the screen replaced comes far too close to the purchase price of a new on to justify fixing it. I hate to say it this way, but the only thing that TV is good for now, is scrap. You have several components in it though that will fetch a decent price, if you're willing to pull it apart, and package up the three boards inside. You may expect to part it out for somewhere a little over a hundred bucks, or sell intact, as it is for much less, and shipping is a lot, and I mean a whole lot more. They don't care if the screen is already broken, they still treat it as breakable, and the weight pushes shipping up too. So, in short, open it up, pull the three boards out, and sell em. You can sell all the wires as well as a kit, (must be all wires though) for a few bucks as well. The rest? Take it to the scrap yard. And for your next tv, it's worth buying a sheet of plexiglass, and epoxying it to the front of your TV. It won't protect against it sliding of of your wall mount, but it will fend off any amount of flying Wii controllers.

You will most likely need to get the set diagnosed. Sounds like you have a backlight problem. Backlight problems could be cause by a fault in the power supply, main board, inverter board, bad CCFL lamp, or a short in a HV(high voltage) cables. I would say it's worth getting a proper diagnosis. However, if you choose to replace the set, you can get a pretty penny for it on Craigslist. If it is clean and come stand and remote, you could get as much as $100 to the right buyer!

Look for loose contacts in power outlet, RC Jacks, sockets, cables. Change input device to some other like a DVD that you are sure works.Swith off TV, swithc off power, remove plug and retry after 48 hours.If problem persists, call in a qualified service technician.

Are we talking about a DVD unit alone or one built into a TV set, called a combo unit?
