LG 42PC3D 42 in. Plasma Television Questions & Answers
Plasma tv has little red dots in the black
This problem (known as sparkles) can be cured by adjusting the ramp control on the Y-Sustain board. If this does not cure the dots then there is a software remedy for the control board which an LG repair centre could fix. Failing that a replacement board is required. The orbitor & whitewash are like screen savers to help to prevent a screen burn from a permanently displayed image.
Horizontal half black screen, sound is still there
A plasma screen uses thousands of tiny fluorescent bulbs in different colours (red blue and green) to produce a picture. Just like standard house hold fluro lamps, these tiny bulbs use starters to turn them on and off. As there are so many bulbs in the panel and therefore starters, the panel has a number of "starter controllers". These controllers can control anywhere from a quarter up to half of the screen. If a controller dies, it takes out it's segment of the screen. Unfortunately, it sounds as if this is what has happened in the case of your LG - this is also common in NEC and Fujitsu panels. Althought these controllers can be fixed, it usually takes more time and money than it's worth- unless you have it under warranty in which case the manufacturer will just replace it. Sorry top be the bearer of bad news. hope it helps
Discharge a capacitor
Use a jumper wire with alligator clips on both ends. This may be dangerous if the voltage is very high and the capacitance is large say 1Mfd and a large spark is anticipated. If a circuit board I anticipate voltages less than 12 volts and you can hook one end of the alligator clip one side of the capacitor and the second alligator clip to the remaining terminal of the capacitor. Expect a spark to discharge when you short the capacitor.
There is a scratch on the screen and it's getting
Unfortunately it is NOT a "Scratch"... actually it is one of the "Row Driving IC's" that is failed/failing, this will only get worse and eventually it will get more & more. Worst of all there isn't anything that can be done, sorry.
I have an lg plasma tv
Never had that model but had other similar models do that when dust shorted out the High Voltage section.
I suggest clean it out with a gentle vacuum and an upholstery attachment. First check to see if set is under warranty.
Unless you are checked-out with high voltages suggest have a qualified tech test and do this for you.

Hello Tiangston9.
These plasma TVs have a common failure with the Ysus boards, more specific an IC that is underneath the big heatsink. The capacitors in the power supply became defective as well.

What is a fly-back?
It's a blank line used in the times of CRT televisions, and used for the transmission of ceefax data.

Souunds like main power regulator board fault. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.
