How to set the jumpers on the back of a DVD and CD drives, on master and slave or set both to cable select?

Tony, Most modern PCs use a BIOS that can recognize the Master drive and Slave drive in the Cable Select setting. The Master is the drive on the last connector of the cable. This only applies to IDE/PATA drives that are PC66 or PC133. SATA drives do not require jumpers. Each is a Master separated via the Channel it is connected on. They are just sorted via numerical order. Most likely you need to identify that you have CD/DVD Burning Software on the PC that recognizes the drives. I hope this helps.

Flashing lights on dell inspiron 1526 laptop

Hi John, I'm sorry to say, I believe that you have a bad CPU. Laptops, unfortunately, don't breathe very well. This means heat is a problem. Heat kills CPU's. The fact that your power and bios seems to be functioning correctly (power problems don't allow lights to come on etc... typically and when you pressed the power button and drained the CMOS battery, the board did what it was supposed to do and reset itself and, in lighting up as usual for the first few seconds, starting its POST again, you can gather that it is functioning correctly). Of course, I'm some guy on the internet, so I'd recommend that you have someone qualified do a proper diagnosis. I apologize for your unfortunate experience. The good news...... the CPU is replaceable and that particular CPU isn't that expensive. Let me know if/when you confirm this and I will help you with replacing it. Regards, Kevin

I put the memory stick in my dell but the computer does not upload the device. so I went to control panel in devices and printers and I can see the devices but when i say add to this computer it's

Memory sticks are not devices such as printers and Dell XPS 400 PC Desktop Installing RAM on a desktop computer is of moderate difficulty for most non-technical people. Before beginning any memory upgrade, make sure the proper RAM has been purchased. The Dell XPS 400 requires DDR2 RAM (240-pin DIMM). Preparing the Computer b> The computer must be unplugged before any work can be completed and the proper precautions must be taken, such as wearing an anti-static wristband. Also, replacing the RAM on a Dell machine could void its warranty. To install the new RAM, the case of the computer needs to be opened. Replacing the RAM b> The motherboard has four RAM slots. Each slot takes one stick of RAM (up to 1 GB per stick). The XPS 400 can utilize up to 4 GB of RAM. If adding RAM, put the new RAM in an empty slot. If replacing the RAM, take out the existing one and then put the new RAM into the machine. Important Notes b> While the Dell XPS 400 has four RAM slots, if only two sticks of RAM are to be used, they must be inserted into slots 1 and 3 or slots 2 and 4 for optimal performance. A single stick of RAM should be inserted into slot 1. Always put the largest ram module closest the CPU central processing unit. Start your computer Wait for Windows to load. Click on "My Computer" and select "Properties" using right-click in the Explorer window. This will open "Systems Properties." Click on the "General" tab. Here you can view the physical memory installed on your computer. The amount indicated is the total RAM installed on your computer. RAM is usually 32 MB, 64 MB or 128 MB in older PC versions. Newer PCs are usually equipped with 256 MB, 512 MB or even higher RAM. b>If you're not sure if a module is right for your system, use the Crucial Memory Advisor tool for a list of guaranteed compatible modules. First you will need to select the manufacturer from a drop down list then select your product line from a drop down list then select the model then click find it will take you directly to compatible ram also you will have an option to scan your system. You should always ask for a guarantee on the compatibility before making any purchase and try to buy for working pairs if possible.

How to connect my wii to my dell xps400

Desktop computers are not known for their wireless connectivity, but it is possible to make yours one that is.

Wireless network adapters, which enable your desktop to pick up wireless Internet signals, come in a variety of forms, and are all fairly easy to install.

Once you have one installed, getting online wirelessly is almost effortless.

Choose the network adapter that is right for you.

The easiest network adapters to connect do so via USB, but if you have limited USB ports on your desktop, you may want to try another option.

There are also network adapters that plug into your Ethernet port, but if you want to use that port for a landline connection you have, and wireless is your backup, then this also may not work for you.

If that is the case, you can buy an add-in card, which fortunately for Dell owners is very easy to install.

Dell computers are designed to be opened and have add-in cards installed without the use of screwdrivers; check your manual for details.

Install the network adapter and any included software.

The adapter will usually come with a software CD with a notice to run the CD either before or after you have plugged in or installed your adapter.

Go through the setup steps on the CD, click "Finish" when it is complete, and your wireless network adapter should then be activated and ready to receive wireless signals.

Click the notification that pops up letting you know that wireless networks are available; or, if there is no notification, go "Start > Connect To" and all available networks will be displayed.

Double-click on the logo for the network you want to connect to and enter the security key if it is a secure network.

(If you set the network up, you should have the security key saved somewhere with your network settings.

If you are connecting to a nearby hotspot, you will need to ask the permission of whoever set up the connection and obtain the security key from that person.)

Select "Home," "Work" or "Public Location" when prompted to designate what type of network connection this is.

You will then be asked if you want your computer to remember this computer and start it automatically in the future.

If you plan to use this connection regularly, it is a good choice to check the boxes next to both options so that the connection will always be available and you won't have to enter a security key for it again.

Hope this helps.

After I reset Dell XPS 400 to factory settings, it now has a dark screen after Microsoft Windows screen shows up. I do not have the original CD. What can I do?

Try to boot into safe mode by holding down the F8 key while booting. If that does not work, it may be evidence of a faulty hard drive (C:).If your hard drive is broken you need to replace it with a compatible drive. Hold on there! This machine dates back to 2005 and is probably not economically repairable. You can buy a brand new and far better system for not too much, or if you really love this model buy a refurbished machine for perhaps $150 on an online auction site.
