E1 4 means that the printer does not recognise the "fine" ink cartridge. Its either the wrong cartridge for your printer or its worn out or empty.

E42 means scanner error. It's posible to be dirt scanner timing sensor or the whell. You can check videos on youtube to find how can fix this issue in detailed mode.

Canon printer error 5100 describes a physical problem, either with a paper jam or an improperly seated ink cartridge. Resolving the error is a quick process, requiring only a few standard procedures. The Canon printer error 5100 indicates that something is jamming the cartridges, that is, the process of the cartridges going and returning is being hampered, so what I recommend is if any of you have a continuous ink system installed in any of these printers, check if this system is not letting the cartridge or rather the head with the cartridges reach where it has to go. If after discarding the previous solution, the printer still does not work, we recommend taking the equipment to technical service to determine the cause of the problem and provide a better diagnosis. Ok Well again I will repeat this answer with a titch more detail.
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam. Some where in the paper path a sensor is activated indicating paper jam so the printer will give off a 6A00 code. As a Canon tech, I usually find the code, almost 90% of the time, is related to the purge unit being jammed with something and not being able to move. Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like. And yes I have found all those things in a purge unit. The offending item needs to be removed or the purge unit needs replacement. A Pixma MP830 would still be under Canon warranty, get it into a shop and save yourself the hassel. 
Incidently, the 6A00 error pertains to all Canon printers made in the last several years, its not just used in one model. And its always a paper path error or purge unit.
I forget myself so here goes, the purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, lexmark, and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing. That is why you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it. It also has a an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.

Procedure to reset Printer canon MP145 and Canon MP160 with Error Code Message for Printer Canon MP145 and Canon MP160, you can find error code message the end of this post:
1) With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding the Stop/ Reset button.
2) When the Power is lit, press the Stop/Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.
3) When releasing the Power button and the Stop / Reset button (regardless of order), the printer will move into a service mode. (Waiting for menu selection)

1. With the printer plugged in and powered off, press and hold the Resume/Cancel button, then press and hold the Power button. (DO NOT release the buttons. The LED light should be green to indicate that a function is selectable.).
2. While holding the Power button, release the Resume/Cancel button. (DO NOT release the Power button.).
3. While holding the Power button, press the Resume/Cancel button 2 times, and then release both the Power and Resume/Cancel buttons. (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in orange and green, starting with orange.).
4. When the LED light is green, press the Resume/Cancel button 4 times. (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in orange and green, starting with orange.).
5. Press the Power button. The LED lights in green, and the reset is performed. (When the operation completes, the printer returns to the menu selection mode automatically.).
6. Press the power button to exit service mode.

Note: if you accidentally press the Resume/Cancel button more than 4 times in step 4 then just press the Resume/Cancel button at least 10 times and the printer will be returned to step 4 automatically
Canon Pixma iP4200, iP5200, iP6000, iP8500 Reset Procedure

1. Turn off the Printers.
2. Hold Resume button click POWER.
3. Hold button RESUME, release POWER
4. Then press the button again twice RESUME.
5. Release all the buttons.
6. Indicator led in green and stay green.
7. Click the button 4 times RESUME, if you want to make another transaction.

error 5100 in all Canon printers is almost always something simply blocking the carriage.

hi, now i got a solution how to SCAN if your printer have E-5 error or something. First u must remove the both cartridge from your printer and make sure u connect your printer to your computer, after that, do this

With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding the Stop/ Reset button.

When the Power is lit, press the Stop/Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.

And then you will see no error in your printer (the LED shows number 1,and the alarm is in green)

hi Fulminater. this is all i could find out from the internet. Scanner driver will be closed : Code 2250. Take it to a Canon Repair company, It has a 1 year warranty and needs to be replaced or call 1-800-ok canon. check can't work the scanner because the cartridge are not inserted. this is all i could find out.

You would need to download and install a service program ( search google or similar for "MP190 reset"), then disassemble the machine to get to the waste ink pads in the base of the machine. Remove wash and dry the pads and re-install. Re-assemble the machine and then run the service program to reset the waste ink counter. It is a lot of work for a relatively old machine.
