Hi Nicole, If you haven?t messed with or tried to save new pictures on the camera since you deleted the Xmas ones then there may be hope. If you take the card to a camera shop that deals with digital cameras they can probably help you. There is a good case for doing the job yourself (and saving money); however, if the pictures are worth a lot to you it may be better to pay an expert to deal with it assuming you can find someone who knows what they are doing. If you?re feeling adventuresome here is one software program that allows you to do a test before buying. http://www.diskinternals.com/products/deleted-data-recovery/ It will show you what it can recover but if you want to get the images you have to pay $40 to activate the software. I?ve used this before and it worked for me but be aware there are lots of other programs, some free. that is an easy fix; although I do not quite understand your question.
Your photos are safe as long as they are in your camera's memory.
If your PC hard drive in your pc is still ok, that data can be easily recovered as well.
But if your computer does not work, then you cannot download or upload anything until you get it going again.
So, what disk are you talking about you have not got ?

I'm going to assume you have accidentally deleted the pictures.
There are several applications that can recover deleted images from memory cards.
The best free one I've found so far is: Pandora Recovery.

Once you have it installed what you want do do is:
1) Insert your memory card in your computer / memory card reader
2) Start "Pandora Recovery"
3) Click "Surface Scan"
4) Where it says "Scan this disc drive" you select your memory card.
5) Click "Start Disk Surface Scan"
6) Let the scan finnish. (This can take some time depending on the size of your memory card.)
7) In the right pane you are now going to see everything "Pandora Recovery" could find on your memory card.
8) Select all or the images you want to restore.
9) Right click the selected files and click "Recover to"
10) Specify where you want to put the files.
11) Click "Recover now".

The lens motor & electronics may be draining power if Ah capacity has dropped too low. At night, it could be that your flash is trying to fire (another drain), or shutter timer / mirror staying open longer.

Are you sure your camer supports 8 Mb? Check your manual. Can you ree it as Remvoabvle disk? It the computer won'r recognize your card, it is BAD. If you can see it, try to format it to FAT32 Again, if can't, card is BAD

Turn down light exposure. Try checking your manual if available. If not available, you should be able to find one online to read.

It might just be a matter of perception or because of a pre-conceived idea that someone instilled in you.... But if it's not only you that you think looks fat, then it might have to do with your lens being damaged. Or if the photo's are being viewed on a computer it might be because of a incompatibility. The computer might be trying to "stretch" out the photos to make it fit.

Usually when it is on M mode there is additional options you can adjust "manually" for good shots... It could just be that the options are adjusted not for the type of Pics you intend to make. Ex. It's set on low light when you are trying to take a high light exposure picture.

When the camera refuses t make a picture, please try putting the main dial to the automatic setting. (most camera's do have that little green camera logo on the dial. Put it there. Then try again. When you tried one of the manual settings or the scene settings, and the camera does not get enough light, it could be it refuses to take the picture. Same when it can't focus, because there is not enough contrast.

Having gone over a month with no response, I assume this is no longer a problem.

Look in the manual for how to change your iSO. For outside 200 is about average. Inside photos usually come out better at a higher ISO. If it is not that, look for your white balance.
