Maytag SkyBox MBV1976A Beverage Dispenser Questions & Answers
SkyBox second button will not dispense
If nothing happens, the switch behind the button must be broken, or something on the PCB that the button is mounted to is broken. But if lights blink, then the button is ok and the problem is with the motor or some sensor. I have a troubleshooting guide for the dispensing system (better than Maytag ever published), as I was directly involved in the design of this product. This does not cover the refridgeration system, as that was provided by our Chinese manufacturer. Please email me at:

Maytag skybox not cooling need name of place and
before replacing parts. unplug it and from back and under neath get all the dust out, best to blow air in there to remove dust than plug it back in and leave it on number 3 setting for 6 to 8 hours than if cold you can adjust the settings.
or part location is at
www.maytage.com/skybox parts
Good Luck Im pretty sure you won't need to buy part's after air cleaning
Dispencer will send out can and then stop
What are the front-door lights doing when it stops? There are other posts about this. It's very likely that the flipper door sensor has corroded. With power off, remove the sensor board and clean it with a stiff brush (remove ALL corrosion), then coat it with blue oxygen-sensor-safe RTV (auto parts store), let dry, then re-install. I have all of the information necessary to make new flipper door sensors. I also have the manufacturing troubleshooting guide.

Maytag skybox stopped cooling
I just replaced my in-pieces starter relay and thermal swich with a Whirlpool 4387535 kit. My Skybox has been working fine ever since.
Note I had the same symptoms as other posts of the compressor turning on/off continuously (but no cooling)...I believe what was happening is that the starter relay would allow current to flow to initially start the compressor, but would never stop providing current to it after it had already started (as it should) thus in a few seconds the thermal switch would sense this and trip / remove power to the compressor...then this cycle would start all over once the thermal switch cooled down again and let power back to the compressor...
This kit is evidently the newer style of what is on the original Skybox compressors (functionally speaking)...the new starter relay looks and installs like the old one, but the thermal switch is different and you need to remove the old one (follow the black wire on the top post of the compressor back a little to a small black round thing with a flexible metal piece inside). The good news is that once you remove it, it already has the correct spade lug on the wire to plug directly into the new thermal switch which sits right on the top lug of the compressor above the starter relay.
Note I'm not a service tech, just a Skybox owner who was/is tired of Maytag disowning this product and calling it a "throwaway" when any part of it stops working (and all local authorized service centers laughing when asked to repair one).
Continuing on with my rant a little, I also see other posts on the internet which also state "throwaway" when you actually have a bad compressor because you can't get direct replacements anymore - my friend who does AC work on the side said he most certainly could put another compressor in there from probably just about any other mini-fridge...he just noted that it is a small place to do it so the replacement compressor form factor will have to be considered. He stated you may get a little more or less cooling efficieny but who cares if you really want to keep your machine working that you can't buy anymore (nor get a close alternative).

Removing compressor from skybox
Maytag never offered a replacement compressor for the SkyBox units. It was not a cost effective repar to make. If you are sure the thermostat is supplying 120VAC to the compressor, you can install a Supco URCO410 relay/capacitor/overload kit. This part should only be installed by a qualified service technician.
Maytag Skybox has stopped cooling
the whirlpool part is the oem part and is the best part for your repair it should replace wire for wire and require very little instruction. the 3-n-1 will cause premature failure of the compressor and is not recommended. As far as I know there really isnt a service manual available for the skybox. It was a very limited production product that didnt stay available for very long. thnaks Peyton
Maytag SkyBox
For the soda name tags, I pulled logos off the internet and printed them the correct size on 20-pound paper. Different paper gives different translucence, so you might have to experiment to get the right amount of light coming through.
PS: thanks for the part no. on the relay
Maytag Skybox

Skybox won't dispense anything
REMOVE LITTLE BOARD FROM END OF 3 WIRE HARNESS. 3 WIRES ARE COM ,NORM OPEN NORM CLOSED . 1 WIRE SHOULD HAVE X ON IT. THIS IS NORM CLOSED. DO NOT NEED THIS WIRE. THE 2 END WIRES ARE DEAD SHORT DO NOT TOUCH TOGETHER. JUST MIDDLE WIRE AND WIRE WITHOUT X PRINTED ON IT. IF YOU DO NOT SEE X ON WIRE JUST HOOK UP MIDDLE AND 1 END WIRE , WHEN YOU CONNECT DOOR PLUG AND TAPE BLACK MAIN DOOR SWITCH CLOSED THE RIGHT 2 WIRES WILL ACTIVATE DISPENSER .HOOK UP THESE WIRES TO A COMMON WINDOW ALARM SWITCH MAGNET TYPE. SILICONE TERMINAL MAGNET TO UPPER RIGHT DOOR FRAME ,THE OTHER MAGNET TO UPPER RIGHT FLAPPER DOOR SIDE , MAGNETS MY HAVE TO BE 1 INCH APART TO OPEN WHEN CAN JARS THE DOOR. WHEN SILICONE DRIES HOOK UP THE MIDDLE WIRE AND END WIRE THAT ACTIVATES DISPENSER
NOW YOU HAVE AN OPEN AND CLOSE WAY TO RESET DISPENSER CYCLE. NOTE DO NOT USE END WIRES TOGETHER CENTER WIRE ONLY X WIRE NOT USED.
Doesn't cool
go to the maytag web site explain the problem in an email or phone them if there is a contact number and they should be able to tell you part number and what it costs. You will need your model and serial number when you call.
