sometimes if you let the win8 os do the search for you it finds the driver switch the camera off and plug the lead into the camera and pc switch on the camera and it should show a notice of plug and ply installed then it will say searching for driver if it finds one it will automatically install it through the windows wizard --just follow the prompts

The lcd screen is no longer working. Fortunately the eyepiece still works and U can still use the camera and compose shots. Repair is not worth the cost.

How to take the tape out from camcorder with no battery? It depends. If you want to keep using the camcorder, you should buy a proper AC adapter. On the other hand, any repair depot will gladly take the tape out for you, either for a modest fee or even for free if you offer them the camcorder.

The NV-GS50 works with SD cards, not with SDHC cards. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Check with the instruction manual for the camcorder which type and capacity SD cards it will "support" and use only the specified cards. The camera will reject any card with a greater Gb capacity than it's system can support.
The more recent your camera the greater card memory capacity will be supported.

where is thr reset switch located

Possible that the video head is dirty and so there is DROP OUT factor as no signal is picked up from the head . The head can be clogged due to fungus from old tapes or from ferrite dust.
Use a good head spray to clean , also use a good head cleaning tape so that the head cleans and it is able to pick up the signals from the tape.
Finally in some cases the dirt can be so strong that you will need to manually clean the head.

Please make sure that you keep your camera switch on for at least half and hour before you press the reset button.

If that does not work , you need to find a battery which is small is size and located either near the LCD or near the main battery compartment which is called as a CMOS battery and usually it's removed to reset the factory settings to it's default.

If you are able to find that battery , please remove it along with the main battery and after 12 hours put it back again so that it works fine.

Also if this does not work then try upgrading the firmware , of this camcorder, however a firmware upgrade will not help if there is a physical damage to any chip inside or a chip is malfunctioning , so the last option would be to get it repaired via the service center.

However I am pretty sure that the battery tricks i have mentioned above will work.

Use a firewire cable, 4-6 pin for a PC, 4 to 4 pin on most laptops.

You are in luck! You do not need a driver for this camera to transfer video over the firewire port into your computer. All you need is the appropriate cable and some video editing software. The software can be as simple as Windows Movie Maker (if you are on a PC) or iMovie (if you are on a Mac). Plug your camera into the firewire cable, turn it on and put it in playback mode, then start your video software. Then there should be an option or menu entry labeled "import footage from camera" or "import" or "transfer from camera" or similar, depending on what software you are using.
