First thing you shold do that HP recommends is to remove AC power from the printer, unplug the printer from the wall for at least 5 minutes before replugging it back in. This will reset the printer, if after doing this and the printer does not come on after hitting the power on button then you may havve a defective control board assembly. In which case it would be cheaper to purchase a new printer as the cost to replace the board would be greater then a new printer..

Maybe your installation fali to include the scan options.Get your CD and install again or Try using the HP Scan Diagnostic Utility in Windows - HP Customer Care (United States - English).

First thing you should do is to check whether the original image is clean and no dust or anything.

The next one is to clean the scanner glass. Use a clean cloth to wipe the scanner glass to make sure there is no dust or anything that might reflect the light from the scanner that can cause white spots.

There is little or no value in older printers.
However the unit has gots its positioning confused.
Try switching off and on printer several time, opening lid for cartridge change to see if it can synch itself again.

Try Cleaning the Cartridges manually and automatically.
For the cartridge clean it with a damp lint free cloth and also for the printheads wher eyour gonna be inserting the cartridges.
Follow these steps do do the automatic aligning and cleaning:
Click Start and then go to Printers and Faxes (XP), Printers(Vista), Devices and Printers(Win 7)
1. Right Click on your printer Icon 2. Go to Printing Preferences 3. Click the Features Tab 4. At the bottom of the window you will see Printer Services or Device Services. Click on it. 5. Choose Align Printheads on the list.

For Cleaning the Printheads, Instead of choosing Align Printer choose Clean Printheads.

Go to this site and download the driver whiz which should tell you how to fix the problem

If you don't have any luck here go to the HP website and in the search box enter your printers name and model. Either download a manual that pretty much covers everything about your printer and if this still don't help check the FAQ section and if you don't see the answer there simply call HP customer support.

make sure the copper contact on the printer and the cartridge is clean. Try another cartridge

Install the driver downloadable from the above link, if not done so already.

Note: Try to uninstall the printer first by deleting it, in the printer's control panel. Then install the driver for your operating system above.
