I'm trying to reset my Motorola SBG900 to add a password

all gear like this have 2 PW (the config web page, and then WIFI settings) the gear IP login page us UN; PW> that? and wifi ,SSID ,WPA2, and PW. not told what fails, start a topic showing evidence of failure or just say wifi, if is wifi pw. or RTM the manual on all routers cover all this and are free and google finds them all if you try. but hark no router told only the MODEM. no kidding google it. Motorola SURFboard SBG900 DOCSIS 2.0 Wireless Cable Modem Gateway (Black) is just a modem and is not router or wifi and yes there are 2 password here, 1 yours as read only , user and #2, the ISP has admin login only never YOU. so why not RTM page 28 (user side) https://www.manualslib.com/manual/106714/Motorola-Sbg900.html?page=28&term=192&selected=1#manual google first hit on topic, 1 modem.

I lost my password, what can I do now

Plug in an ethernet cord and type in these numbers in the web address field 192.168.100.1 and enter admin for the username and Motorola for the password and log in. Otherwise, find the reset button on the router. Press and hold for about 30 seconds to perform factory reset. Then you'll need to reset everything.

I am unable to access my company's vpn server.

You may have some needed firewall ports blocked on your router. Turn off the firewall temporally and see if your able to connect. Your company IT folks should be able to tell you what ports they need open.

WINDOWS VISTA - CAN'T SET UP LAN: SOFTWARE NOT COMPATIBLE?

I don't see Vista listed in the SBG Manual, but they do list several windowS OS versions. Looking at Windows 2000 for an example, you basically need to go into the control panel and make sure TCP/IP is configured correctly. If Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is in the list of components, TCP/IP is installed. You can skip to step 10. If Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is not in the list, click Install. The Select Network Component Type window is displayed: In both cases, the box next to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) needs to be selected. If you need the steps in selecting the network component type let me know and I'll try to post those steps also.
