AV receivers shows protect mode , when there is a hardware fault in side it. Its a warning that some thing is wrong.
Noramlly AV receivers show this when any of the output amplifier get some problem. there are six amplifiers in this AV receiver. May occur when the output diver transistors of any of the amplifier become shorted. if the output transistor get shorted this will lead to flow of current through the speakers. To prevent this there is a protection circuit for each channels. One combined output of this protection circuit is connected to the system control. when the any of the output amplifier fails, the protection circuit detects it and switch of the speaker and sent data to the system control. when the system control get this data it will give a warning to the customer through display that PROTECT.
You have to check the amplifier.
for that you need digital multimeter,soledring iron screwdrivers etc
open the amplifier , then power it on. connect the negative terminal of the multimeter any where in the chase( metal body of the amplifer). then connect the positive terminal to all the output transistors emitter pin one by one . the voltage should be bellow 0.5V. If any of the emitter of the transistor shows voltage more than 0.5V., then that amplifier stage is faulty. Remove the transistors and check it. if it is shot then replace with a new one.
after replacing the transistors do not power up the amplifier directly from the main. You have to put a bulb of 60 watts in serial.
You can do this easily remove the mains fuse. put the bulb in a holder. now you have to wire from the holder. connect one of it to the one end of the fuse holder and the other wire to the other end of the fuse holder. Why using a bulb is, if there is any further problem in the amplifier stage on which the transistors replaced, there is a possibility of the new transistor get damage. if we use a bulb in serial with its mains supply ,when any overload in the amplifier occur the bulb will drop the current, by lighting itself.
After connecting the bulb in serious power on the amplifier. watch the bulb. It should light for one or two second and go dim . if so check the display, is there is protect mode is on or not . if not and come back to normal operation ,then remove the power , remove the bulb insert fuse and check
connect the power and check.
If the bulb shows bright light then there is some component also faulty in the same amplifier. after removing the power you have to check again the amplifier stage of which the transistor is replaced, for any other faulty components.

I'm not sure of your question. Are you saying that you can't change the tone? If so, you may have a tone defeat button pushed.

there maybe to much voltage going to the vol control ic which
may cause the ic to go out again.,or ic could be defective again.

AUX is NOT LITERAL. It represents any Line Level analog 2-channel audio RCA input. Labels don't make them different.

I assumed that you make the necessary connections properly..Just for reminding,
If you want to listen your TV on your Stereo system thru your receiver, you need to connect "Audio Output " RCA jacks of your TV to "AUX input " or "Any input" of your receiver ( except Phone ) than just switch to respective mode corresponding your RCA connection..
There you go..Your TV sound is on the Receiver..

Place the receiver in Standby mode (press the front-panel Standby/On Switch so that the Power Indicator turns orange).
Then press and hold the front-panel OK Button on the Receiver ( not remote ) for at least five seconds until the RESET message appears in the display. Then press OK. The system will go to factory default. All your settings will be lost like FM stations / Sound settings etc: .

First, unplug it from any power source. Then without moving the unit itself from it's current position in the cabinet, get a view of the back panel. Paying special attention to the speaker terminals, carefully inspect each one. They all should be tight, clean and with no stray strands of speaker cable. Then inspect the opposite end of each cable and terminal at each speaker.

A loose or broken connection or one with a stray piece of wire is a common cause of triggering a modern day receiver to enter into protect mode. Over time the copper speaker cable will corrode, become brittle and then if the unit or any of speaker cables are moved or stressed in some other way they can break. When that does happen it causes the amplifier to short circuit at the terminal or on the chassis.

Protect is an error code for short and or overload. This will appear once the processor sense a malfunction either on the power supply or on the load (high chance is the output IC). DIY steps are as follow to determine where the fault is : 1. Allow the unit to cool down for an hour. Give proper ventilation and keep away all obstruction from the vent to have a sufficient air flow. 2. Disconnect one at a time the speakers, inputs, from the unit while powering it on.

If the unit back to normal again then you've confirmed that any of the above caused the error code. If #1 is the caused, you have to check also the exhaust fan, clean it as much as possible, replaced if faulty. If #2 is the caused (speaker) check the wire and speakers for short, (input) check the RCA cord for short or replaced if necessary.

If the above simple fix didn't cure the error code, you can try the next steps if you are an electronicsenthusiast. Now after removing the cover, you have to concentrate first on the power supply board. Look for bulged electrolytic capacitor. Leaky capacitor will affect the regulation of the supply and will trigger the error code. Look for dry joints. Check it also in the pre-amplifier stage, main output board where a big heat sink is located. Next disable the output amplifier stage by disconnecting the supply. If the unit come out, make some re-soldering on the board, spot the cold solder and dry joints and then try to connect again. If the error code appear again, high chance that your output IC is faulty but still to be confirmed. Using the disoldering pump and soldering iron pull-out the output IC from the board then try the unit. If the error code disappear, confirmed that your IC is faulty.After trying the abovesteps-by-steps guide and still the symptoms persist this is the time for you to send it to repair shop. Remember that your unit has a lot of parts and only some basic steps have done, leave the expert to troubleshoot the entire unit.

Make sure that the audio out is coming from the television and not the same source that is sending picture to the television. this will fix the problem for you.

1. Make sure there are fresh batteries in the remote, and they are installed correctly.
2. Make sure the area between the remote control and receiver is not blocked by some object,
and the distance is no more than 15 feet at an angle no greater than 30 degrees from the
front of the receiver.
3. Make sure strong lighting is not directed towards the IR sensor of the receiver.
4. Press each button on the remote and verify proper operation.
If these steps are taken and remote control still does not function properly

5. This step discharges the capacitor and resets the remote control. (You do not need to point
the remote control at the receiver or even have the receiver turned on.)

Press the TV and the M4 buttons at the same time and hold for 12 seconds.
To Test: Make sure your AVR35 is ON, press each button on the remote and verify
proper operation of your receiver.

Hi kjlennon,

If you using antenna tv most likly the AVR gives you RF interference into your tv.
Using ferrite choke on your AVR power cord can help you reduce it.

You have a memory cap ,usally located on the front display,that is most likely defective.measure voltage on cap with unit off should measure at least 3-5 volts
