Have a black screen, lens opens, but it seems like the light sensor isn't working. If you press the trigger, there is slow click and flash, but no picture.

Your problem statement are not enough information. I understand yours. But Would you state more in sequence and detail! " camera function orders are follows:
1, I switch on the camera that lens unit come out to initiate position and dust cover blades open and shutter blade open inside of lens unit. (This state you should see real time image.)
2. I aim a object and I press or lightly touch on hold top of shutter button that read auto focus and meter at simultaneously.
3. Pushing harder or more the shutter button that allows to perform rest of functions which actual shutter blade close/open inside of lens unit.
After this moment, picture should store to memory and you can watch the taken image on the back of LCD unit.

If you can see the real time image on the back of LCD at the first stage then you need to study user manual. However, you can not see the real time image, then your camera has several possible problem. ( lens unit defect, picture sensor defect, picture sensor control circuitry defect, or main pcb defect) These are recommended to bring to local repair shop or nikonusa.
