My camera first would not recognize the memory card that was in there and later the memory card would not click and stay in place.
Are you sure you are using the correct memory stick?
Most cameras use SD cards, but Sony uses Memory stick Duo pro.
Make sure you have the right memory, because not all Memory sticks are compatible and not all can be user for both, stills and video.
If you have the right card, make sure you only put it in like described in the manual. If you try to put it in, the wrong way around, toy could damage the camera. (most likely you will bend the contact points inside the memory card holder) and if you already did, it could be almost impossible to get that right, without sending in the camera to a Sony service centre.

The lens will not retract or once it does will not open
I have had
that problem unfortunately the method to fix this issue is not guaranteed but
has been effective. First get a wash cloth or anything similar and fold it in
half and then fold into a square. Second cover the side of your camera with the
cloth that holds the battery. Third depending on how thick the cloth is tap the
battery end of the camera on a hard surface a couple times then reboot your
camera
