Maybe, It doesn't work because the driver/application you installed is for other versions of operating system. I am also using windows 7 like you so don't you worry, You can still use your old installer/driver from other versions of operating systems. Just remember that before installing any program in a windows 7 Operating System Computer, Use "troubleshoot compatibility". Right Click the Icon of your program installer/application first, then choose "troubleshoot compatibility". This will allow you to choose on what type operating system your program will run. You are saying it has no SD card in the camera but full memory? I believe the camera has an internal memory storage too... I can't remember how much, it might need to be cleared as well.

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Consider NOT using a driver.The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

It is a very good possibility that those rechargable batteries have had it.
You probably need new ones.

They are only effective for about two years.

You didn't get an SD card at all, but an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Press right on the multiselector (marked with a one-handed clock) to cycle through the self-timer modes. Start the self-timer by pressing the shutter release button.

Once you get the camera working again by the "shuffling technique", don't connect it to the computer again. Instead, purchase an inexpensive card reader and use it to download pictures from now on.
