Won't recognise DVD Ram and non-finalised discs from own recordings.

Hi,

Usually, the U11 error code in a Panasonic DVD player indicates an optical problem. You could of course try doing a cleaning using a CD cleaner normally readily from computer parts stores. Alternately, you can open the unit up and do a manual cleaning with soft bristle brush and/or cotton buds. Other than that, it could be indicative of a weakening laser eye which of course would require parts replacement.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you

need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa..

Hallo, I'm new here, I hope someone can help me with my problem. I have a Panasonic DMR-HS2 DVD recorder, and I've had no problems yet, till recently. I had programmed several TV programs. W

It might well have crashed! I suggest you unplug or turn off the power to the unit and leave it off for a while to see if it corrects itself when you power up again. Keep a look out for any codes in the display when it powers up. Was there a disc in the drive when you shut it down? That might be contributing to the problem if there is. If the hard drive has failed it still might be possible to remove it and recover the contents, before fitting a new one. There are the same ones you buy for home PC's afterall.

Locked DVD Tray

I'm pretty sure the force disk eject is the same across all Panasonic models - however I couldn't find anything specific for your model number. Still worth a shot, though.

With the unit in standby, press and hold the 'Stop' and 'Ch up' buttons together. It should power up and force the tray open. If this doesn't work, try changing up your timing by pressing and holding 'Stop' first, then a half-second later, press and hold 'Ch up' and keep them both held together. You can also try the opposite.

If none of these work, it will have to be taken apart to get the disc out. If you aren't comfortable trying, it will have to go to service.

I want to reset the

If you do not have your original instruction manual, you can download a free pdf from:

http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Video/DVD-Recorders-Players/DVD-Recorders/model.DMR-HS2

(right-click and save link/target as... - it is a 3.2MB file (total size))

It may or may not help. Either way it's free.

RAM Disk won't eject

unfortunately, this unit is on system lock down due to massive main board failure. its kinda like a system protect mode. this can only be repaired by the manufacture or maybe an in house tech with knowledge of the board outline. i don't think this unit has an escape code for retrieving the dvd. hope that helps ya and thanks for using fixya:)

DVD Disc Drive

So farit seems that the laser lense or the laser coil is bad. I found my lense chipped. One site indicated this is because of the use of "bad" DISCs that cause the laser diode to overload because of repeated attempts to read the bad disk. The coil and/or diod get hot and burn. I don't know how my lense got chipped!?

Problem about turning on

Hi, seems that the ribbon cable, which connects HDD & DVD & video-processing card isn't properly fixed to the stripe contactors. If one of both drives isn't connected, ( even on some contacts only) the other doesn't work, resulting in the described fault. The unit won't boot up.
Had this fault atime ago and had to push the ribbons a little harder into the connector and glued it.
Works since then about a year or so.
By the way, I have a 80 Gb replace-HDD, different brand, as the original one failed. NO problems at all, just louder than before, as it isn't the superquiet Maxtor.
If you try to read the unmounted HDD in a PC, the filesystem is changed or disturbed, resulting in the need to FORMAT, when putting it back into the Pana. Done this just by curiosity, all videos gone then. Even with a HDD, that works properly in the Pana.
