If convergence is skewed and will not adjust in the customer menu:
One or both of the STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE IC chips most of these sets use is bad.
Most
of these sets have the convergence board all the way at the front of
the set--you can gain access by removing front under the screen--that is
held in by 2 screws on either side in the back and two tiny ones where
the front control door is located.
Behind it there is a inspection plate--if you remove it you will see the board right behind it with 2 metal
heat sinks with fins. The chips are on the other side of the heat sinks.
This if you know how to solder etc is not a very hard set to do this repair on--Total parts cost if you buy them on Ebay (I can tell you the best seller there) is under 30 dollars.
If
you think you can do the repair I can tell you what you will need and
how to remove that board---the board is very easy to get out of the
set--with it out you replace the chips and check for any damaged
resistors--usually just both chips need to be replaced.
This type of repair usually takes me about a hour---I have done hundreds of them.
If you can not do the repair--most shops are going to get 300 or more for this repair.
