to open the tray during "please wait", remove casing then loosen front panel (clips either side and underneath). Power up to get "please wait", then press small microswitch in bottom right corner of the DVD player unit. I think you should take it back, cause! defective laser pickup, or the video processor, and possibly the audio/video cable, "replace to be sure"

Replace all power supply's capacitors that are on the secondary.

You will need DVD player software which is usually pre-installed on most newer computers, and you can use various programs for coping the files. The Nero 9 Suite http://www.nero.com has programs that will allow you to do this or the NCH Software Suite http://www.nchsoftware.com/index.html has many utilities for video. There are many others available and likely some Shareware as well for this if you Google "Copy DVD to Hard Disk".

Have you tried a different disc? Some discs do go faulty. Is the disc compatiable with the machine? Try erasing the disc and starting again.

PROGRESIVE SCAN will only work with an HD TV and it does not work via the scart lead. Select off for it if you have an old TV. If you can't get it to stop coming on by doing what it says to do, then you have an electrical fault on the LG.
PROGRESIVE SCAN itself is a method of getting high quality images on HD TV's via the special sockets at the back of the DVD.

No, this is a fault with the unit, 99% of the time caused by the power supply, but I've seen it be caused by the MPEG pcb
