Try adjusting visual cable which is yellow ...nothing yet play with cable if works after this solution your cable is broke from the inside this problem happens all the time

It has a loose connection on one of the boards. To test this the next time it turns off, Power it down and then back up, While its trying to come on hit the side or kick the bottom and see if it comes on. Sometimes you have to hit it hard. If it comes back on its a loose connection. A tech will have to check all the connections and if no loose connections are found he will have to resolder the joints on the boards.

It's probably a color convergence issue. Televisions can be pretty expensive to repair. Once this convergence starts to go, there's no stopping it. I know just to have a repair guy come out to my house, it was $100. I suggestion calling a tv repair guy, or bring the TV in to Circuit City type places for a estimate.

It's likely that you've changed the screen format to a different ratio. There should be a button on your original Pioneer remote, marked "MODE" with "SCREEN" written above.

The change the screen ratio, put your TV on a channel where you can see sports scores or the news tickers, then press the "MODE" button repeatedly until they are the correct size and in the correct position. Each successive press of the "MODE" button will cycle through the options for "NATURAL WIDE", "CINEMA WIDE", "ZOOM", "FULL" and "NORMAL"

I suspect you have accidentally pressed the "MODE" button and are in "ZOOM" mode. You probably need to be in either "FULL" or "NORMAL" modes depending on your viewing requirements.

It may also be necessary to adjust the vertical (V) position on the picture. If you have changed the mode settings as above but it's still not correct, please post back if you need information on changing the picture position.

A lot of these sets had convergence problems--usually if that is the case the set will not come back on.

They also had solder problems on mostly the main power board--if that is where that transformer is I would suggest you mark and unplug all the plugs and remove that board-- If you look closely you may find you have a cracked connection or connections around it---

A good idea is if you do this and find a bad connection take some time and look that whole board carefully--with it out I would go over it and solder any questionable connections---A lot of these sets use lead free solder and it does not stick real good--bad connections develop after time from expansion and contraction as the board gets hot and then cools off.

The power protection circuit has shut it down by turning the power relay OFF. The problem is some section of the set is drawing too much current and the power protection circuit detects this and pulls the power relay OFF. The most common problems are with the high voltage section, deflection circuits or audio amplifier. Could, rarely, but could be the main power supply. So, you can take the chance by holding the power relay ON for long enough to see if you can get a clue as to what section is not working. For example, if you hold it on for a few seconds and don't get any raster you know there is a high voltage problem. Or, if you get a raster but the picture is messed up mabye the problem is in the deflection circuitry. Or, if there is a good picture but no audio, could be the audio amplifier, etc. Using the above procedure you may be able to get an idea of what is going on inside the set.

DON'T FORGET, before you do anything, DO A HARD RESET AND A WHACKING TEST: just disconnect the power cord for 4 hours to restore the internal soft codes to factory defaults. Bang on the set in search of a loose wire or cold solder joint!

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

• Screen looks 3D
• Colors don't line up
• One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
• Screen is bowed or warped.
• TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

CONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. cycle the big power button. the tv will try to come one, and as it kicks off and goes into shutdown, a red led will light up inside. one on the power board indicates shutdown, but another somewhere else will indicate where the failure is. you can pop the speaker grille and see inside the front or pull off the back

There can be several causes for this, few of which you can do anything about. However, a few things to try.

1) Replace the batteries on your remote control.
2) Try resetting the logic functions on your tv by unplugging it for a minute, then plugging it back in.
3) Try covering up the infra-red receptor on the front of your TV to see if you're getting unwanted signals from the receptor. taping a piece of foil over that area is perfect. If it doesn't stop after doing these two things you'll probably need to take it to a shop.
4) If this does stop it, then look for unexpected signal sources. Have you added a remote control extender? Added a new device to your audio-video system? Changed to a new remote?

If the sound keeps working your probably just need a new lamp, if the sound does not stay on, you probably to get someone to fix the power supply.

You definitely need a new lamp for the tv.

try cooling down tv with a fan to see if it stays on longer. if so, it's overheating. then to next step. feel for excess heat and look for dark areas on components inside. it may be obvious. if not, you may need to call a pro or replace the set. best buy use to do basic diagnostics for $25, but that was about 7 years ago

Thanks for using FixYa. The life of a projection TV is 10-12 years usually. And that of the bulb is 10000 hrs. However, the issue you are describing not tells you completely that its a Bad bulb. It can also happen due to faulty focus control or due to sparks on the flyback transformer. Also make sure to check the connections of the lamp, make sure the connections are firm.
Also check whether all the cables from your cable box are fine and connected firmly. If yes then you'll need to pull off the front of the tv, behind the speaker grill there would be a panel. Remove the panel and check for a black box hanging over there. It has 6 controls on it, 3 are marked as focus and 3 as screen. You'll need to adjust the screen. If you turn these too high you can damage a tube. So, we are doing real small adjustments. Turn the color off on the tv and adjust the red, blue & green controls up till you get a fine picture. Also adjust the focus until you get a clear picture.
And, if it doesn't resolve your issue then it is an intermittant red or blue lamp, a bad driver transistor a bad connection on the blue crt board.
Replacing a lamp is a costly affair, so before replacing you'll need to check all other things. Note-- Please make sure to turn off and unplug the TV for at least 1 hour (this will drain off current from all components especially capacitors) before you perform any repairs. Also note that the TV consists of very high voltages even when it is in OFF condition.
