My advice throw the dirty ice away then monitor. It could be residue from old filter or even new. This happens sometimes and usually clears it self.

yes turn the rocker switch but you cant use it as a refrig this cuts compressor and all off

The storing compartment is not refrigerated so it will melt away the warmer ambient temperature the faster it will melt . also make sure there isn't something producing heat in the compartment

The thermostat does come through the back of the unit and pushes into a tube attached to the ice mold , I do belive they are still available

Clean and descale the inside waterways with ice machine cleaner. Check hoses for leaks. Instal in-line filter
