When a board goes thru the cutting bars raise up. we have checked out and tightened the locking bar. everything seems fine.

Educated guess that the adjustment screw (knob) is not locked OR the screw shaft is worn on the top/bottom allowing the gear to jump off the screw thread. Does it shake when the planner is off? A question is Is the thickness indicator still showing the original setting? From another site: Once the height is set, remember to push the black bar back down to lock the cutting head in place. DeWalt web site customer rep might be able to assist you.

My Dewalt 735 planer won't turn on. I blew the house fuse a few times, it would start after I came out. Now it won't start at all and it's been a couple days

The 735 draws 15 amps, which is the rating of typical lighting circuits in homes. The receptical in the wall is sometimes 15 amps although those circuits usually have 20 amp breakers. Since you said "fuse", it might be a bad fuse or even the wiring between the two. Circuit breakers go bad also. If you can confirm the receptical supplies voltage, it is time to check the 735. Unknown if the device has a termal switch inside. I doubt it would go bad, but you implied a resting period allowed it to run several more times after the fuse in the basement was replaced. If it reset once, it should do it again. If you can find a diagram, there might be a fuse inside, but someone would have to take it apart to check. A motor can get so hot that a solder joint inside can let loose and it will never run again. Sometimes the coil (windings of the motor) can short out (melt together) and this will increase how much current goes through it and also generate more heat and melt more windings together. Besides producing a smell, your house fuse would burn out real quick. I had a chuckle over your 2nd sentence but I dare not say why. If it started after you came out (of the house), why did you not run it for a longer time? A motor requires more power at the instant of turn on. 15 amps of running current will require 20 amps or more when starting. "slow blow" fuses (vs quick action) and circuit breakers can deal with the short period over current requirements.

About halfway thru a board, the pressure releases and the cutting bars raise up. we have tightened everything on the locking bar but it still does the same thing.

Dw734 planer

More than likely the screw threads are gummed up. Make sure the locking mechanism is up and lower the carriage. Clean the screw threads, spray with WD40 and wipe off the excess. I had the same problem because rarely raised the carriage above 2". Hope this helps!

The planer keeps tripping its own circuit breaker.

There is a wire that is shorting out some where on it.. I would start with the switch then go to the cord.. If that doesn't work, you'll need to take it a part and look for a striped or broken wire. I’m happy to assist further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/jay_17408fb1a2cad107

The self-feed slips on my Dw 734 Planer.

I have had the same problem with my planer since it was new. I hate this planer. The way I fixed it was to pull the feed rollers off and put one washer in the hole the pressure springs are on the rollers. I also put about a 1/32 washer under the hold down plate for the roller. It allows the rollers to put more pressure on the wood. Now it works perfect. If it sounds complicated, it will all come together when you take it apart. You take the bottom off to do all this. Trust me it works and is worth the trouble to do it.

Either it is not really locked in place, you have a loose nut on the other end of the adjuster or a bad bearing.

How do you change the blades on a dw734 planer

Did you save the wrenches for the blades and the setting gauges? You need them. It is hard to do without. You have to take off the dust cover, should be called the finger cover, get the cutter head to lock up, it should have a pin on the right side to lock it from turning, loosen the jib screws,(bolts), and blow out he cutter head. Leave the adj screws where they are. Then do the other side, sharpen the knives, or get the new ones ready, don't answer the fone, or eat dinner at this time. The knife setter sets each knife to the same height and/or depth across the cutter head. It is a small C shaped thing that rides on the head and grabs the tip of the knife when it is at the right depth, they all have to be the same, and they just scrape the knife, they don't pull it or move it, it just touches it. Snug up the jib screw, and move to the middle, check and adj the height snug up the screw, move to the end, do the same, go back to the other end, check it again, use a small piece of wood to tap it down if you have to move it, when it looks good, torque it down, then do the other side the same way. I hope this doesn't have those tiny 2 sided knives in it? They are the worst, they have no meat, they don't cut worth a flip. You need the big knives, something with some meat to them. Check it out, hope this helps.

I want to make a necklace for my sons wedding with pearls but they are so small and delicate I am not sure what thread will work with it?

Pearls often have very small holes. You need to use a natural silk thread or another very fine thread. It really depends if you plan to knot between pearls, if so that will affect your choice of thread, so make sure you get advice from a beading expert before you buy.
