It will only play Blu-ray DVD's????

Blu-ray players can play both BD and DVD disks, the region of disks must match the ones that the player accepts.

Won't turn on.

"Player is getting power. (It's) making a faint sound and the output jack is flashing but shows nothing on the display"So, it is obviously NOT 1, 2, or 3 above. It IS getting power. The first thing I'd try is a re-boot, try unplugging the unit and waiting about

I downloaded an update (BD.808.544.B) on Sunday,

I had a similar problem. Mine would take about 30 seconds just to detect the connection speed, then would take about 3 minutes to buffer the movie. After about 3 minutes of playing, it would stop and buffer about 3 more minutes of the movie, play for 3 minutes, then stop and buffer about 3 more minutes, etc.
I noticed on another thread that people were disabling BD-Live to resolve other issues, so I tried that and it seems to have solved my problem. You might want to give it a try. Under Setup -> Network -> BD-LIVE connection - set it to Prohibited and give it a try.
I guess you only need BD-Live enabled if you have BluRay discs and want to access the online extras.

My lg blue ray player is powering up and all that isoniazid the screen is powering off

if you have basic knowledge in electronic repair then you can do a check in your player. first you will need to unplug the unit for safety. then unscrew to remove the cover now look for the power supply board which supply the main board and mechanism. try to find any unusual in the board like bulged component parts or any burnt parts, as will as in the main board. if none everything looks fine, at this time you will need a trouble shooting which need to used device like digital tester. you must check weather the supply dc voltages coming from the power supply board are stable if not it will not turn on properly.
