I cant find my L1 buttom in ti 89

There isn't one. Unlike the TI-83/84, the TI-89 lets you use any name for lists. If you want a list (or any other item) named "L1" you can spell it out by pressing ALPHA 4 1.

List 1 and list 2

If you are truly talking about the the TI89 calculator there is no command to set Diagnostics ON. This is a command for the TI 83/84 Plus. In the TI 89, the correlation coefficient is displayed by default in the statistical result screen. In the Ti83/84 open the catalog: Press [2nd][0] (CATALOG). Press D, then scroll from there until the line DiagnosticOn. Select the line and press ENTER.

Invalid implied multiply

An implied multiplication happens when you put two names of variables one after the other without actually entering the multiplication sign (* or cross). The calculator is interpreting this as a multiplication and is telling you it is wrong to do so. I suspect this can happen if you use a variable name made up of two or more letters without first defining the variable. If you use a variable called ax or xa without defining it before it is called, the calculator interprets that as variable a times variable x.

Argument error whenever I type equations with variables.

Perhaps you have some data stored in the x variable.

With the calculator on, press [2nd] then the minus button. This brings up a list of all the saved data in the calculator. Look through the far left column of the list for x.

If you find x in the list, highlight x, then press F1, and then select delete.

Now it should work like normal.
