"log(2)8" means "common logarithm of 2 multiplied by 8".

The TI-84 has three different logarithm functions.

log is the common (base-10) logarithm.

ln is the natural (base-e) logarithm.

logBASE lets you take the logarithm to any positive base.

If you want the log base 2 of 8, you want logBASE(2,8). You'll find the logBASE function in the catalog, accessible by pressing 2ND [CATALOG] ). CATALOG is the shifted function of the 0 key, the ) gets you to the Ls in the catalog.

Hello,

All the applications that were preloaded in your calculator are available to download freely from http://education.ti.com Use the tab Download--> Apps and software. Then select software for the TI83/TI84 Family. While you are at the site download the TI Connect, if yoy do not have it already. The link follows.

http://education.ti.com/educationportal/sites/US/productDetail/us_ti_connect.html You can also download the latest OS there.

Install TI connect on your computer and run it to open the main Window. Then connect you calculator to a USB port and, in the TIConnect main window Click the TIDeviceInfo icon. Software will try to retrieve the info. If it does your calculator is ready to communicate with the computer.

If it tells you Device Not found , Click communication settings in same pop up window where it said Not found, and Select Device, Select Cable (USB or TIsilver cable), Select Port (USB1) and Click OK..

If you are lucky and it works, you can reinstall the OS, which can be downloaded from education.ti.com. You drag and drop the OS on the TIconnect main window. Calculator must of couse be connected to computer. To install an application already downloaded to you computer, drag it to the main window of TI Connect and drop it. Keep installing, the appilcations you want.

If you have problem with TIconnect, use the calc-to-calc cable to transfer the Apps on a working calculator. Yous should be on Receive mode [2nd][Link] --->>Receive. (When both calculators are ready hit enter.) The other calculator, you guessed exactly right, must be on Send [2nd][Link][SEND][C:Apps]. A list of Apps appears. Scroll down the list. If you want to transmit un app you press [ENTER] when the arrow reaches its line. Once an app is selected , a small square appears on the left. After the selection, Hit transmit. I suggest you transfer Apps, one after the other. Avoid selecting them all and send them all at one go.

Hope it helps

Use the parenthesis above the 8 and 9 keys. Don't use the curly braces on those shifted keys (those are for lists) nor the square brackets on the multiply and subract keys (those are for arrays).

If either error occurs when trying to graph a function (not a STAT PLOT), the error can be corrected by turning off the STAT PLOTS. The following steps will turn the STAT PLOTS off, allowing the graph of the function to be displayed.• Press [2nd] [Y=] to access the STAT PLOTS menu.

• Select 4: PlotsOff.

• Press [ENTER].

• Try graphing a function like y = x^4-3x^3+6x-1

Wow. Just wow. How did that person do that?! Anyways, try resetting ALL of the memory, and see if that helps, if not, ask the student what she did so that it can be reversed (probably by doing the same steps in the opposite order.

Use the square brackets ("[" and "]"). They're the shifted functions of the multiply and subtract keys. For Y(sub 1) enter it as "Y[1]".

Press Y=

On the Y1 line enter the expression LOG(X+2)+LOG(X+3) by pressing

LOG ALPHA [X] ) + LOG ALPHA [X] + 3 )

On the Y2 line enter the expression 7-X by pressing

7 - ALPHA [X]

Press GRAPH to see the graph. To see where they intersect, press 2ND [CALC] 5. See "First curve?" in the lower left. Use up/down-arrow to select one of the two curves and press ENTER. See "Second curve?" in the lower left. Use up/down-arrow to select the other curve and press ENTER. See "Guess?" in the lower left. Press ENTER. The calculator will show the coordinates of the intersection.

I found somewhere that the no/slow key response could be due to a short in the I/O socket. I blew into it really hard, and it worked perfectly after that. I hope this helps.

Ok, try these two things and you should be just fine.

1.) Check your range for your graph. It is possible that the range you are using isnt large enough to show the curve. Also try using Z-fit vs Z-st. These are options that your calculator will give you once the equation is graphed.

2.) Place a parenthesis around the 2x, make sure that you and the calculator are both using the same order of operations. This move mill ensure that the calculator will multiply the variable, x, by two and then do the exponential.

This should do it!

Happy Graphing!
