From your description the motor is bad. The opener was made by chamberlain and you can bu a new opener at HD. I had 2 Craftsman openers in my garage and repaired them, but realized it was time to replace them with chamberlains and never regretted it.

The learn button is located on the garage door opener unit itself that hangs from the ceiling. If you follow the gray antenna up to the unit you will see a red/orange button on the unit. That is the learn button. When you push that button and amber LED will light up either above or next to the learn button. This indicates that the garage door opener is now ready to learn a new device. Press and hold the button you want programed on the garage door opener remote and release it. The garage door opener will click and the garage door opener light will go off and come back on (if the light bulbs are in working order). The amber LED will go out, repeat if you need to program anything else.

Im assuming the up position works. Try change all batteries and check sensors they can be off by a hair

The dial is the force adjustment. if it ever does it again and the light on the opener isn't blinking, its a bad rpm board

try adjusting the down force. the force necessary to may it reverse. it may be set too light. increase the down force and see if that helps. usually screw in back of unit. and usually labeled.

There's a gremlin living in your overhead light.....lol. The circuit board in the opener has the timer for the light. There's a component that's beginning to fail on it. Replace the circuit board.

There is an chance you circuit board got a surge. It may need replaced. First try unplugging it for 30 sec and plugging it back in. Garages are generally protected by a gfi plug. You might want to restate your question with a little more clarity and details.

Not sure what your door opener is like but if there has been a local strike, or a power surge , it is possible it has been fried. Probably best to let an electrician take a look at it. Good Luck

As Ray stated change your battery and clean the contacts and the button with some alcohol. Check and make sure it works with your wall switch. Lastly the receiver in the opener could be going bad.
