Tippmann 98 Custom Act Paintball Gun Questions & Answers
98 Custom Act Paintball Gun: i want it to go fasteer...
I can take that a couple of ways. Do you mean you want to fire more balls per second or you want the paintballs themselves to fly faster?
If you want to fire faster, make sure it's clean and properly lubed with a quality oil that made for paintball. Practice makes perfect and fire that ****** as often as you can, even without paint (that's cheaper!) so you can get your trigger finger in shape.
There are custom mods to the trigger, or you can buy a trigger that's smoother or a shorter pull. There are electronic trigger assemblies that make firing faster even easier.
If you're talking about making the balls fly out of the gun faster, that would be the "velocity adjustment". Your user guide shows you how to make that adjustment and which direction is up, and which is down.
A good suggestion is to check out a local field or paintball store, or an airsmith and they can give you some definite ideas you will want to pursue.
Good luck!

Cannot adjust velocity
Please see below page 8 for picture of what I am talking about.
On page 8 in the middle left side is a picture of the internal vale parts.
When you pull the valve out on the back side is a little o ring that can be taken out using an o ring pick. Make sure to watch the way the parts come out and look for any rust, also broken o rings if the valve is stuck open this will allow the maximum of air to pass. Most of time is this part that is messed up. You can by the valve in one unit this is the best option.
But the first thing is to check the valve and all the parts. Lube it up and re install it.

When i put my paintballs
Sound like your ball detent is gone or broken.
The detent is a tiny piece of rubber that keeps the paintballs in the chamber and from rolling out the barrel. It's a cheap part, but you will need basic knowledge of disassembling a Tippmann 98 to replace it.
You can find ball detents here!
Paintballs will fall out of the barrel of my
Get another ball detente from ebay, this one is the cheapest one I could find.

My gun wont stop shooting but the co2 tank is full
First make sure your marker has been fully cleaned out (No paint in the marker).
Always follow the flow of air when a problem like this arises.
Make sure their is nothing blocking the ASA (Where your tank screws into the gun)
If you have a regulator make sure you are not running any lower than 800 PSI, if you have a gas through grip then disregard this step.
First check your hammer o-ring, if it is broken you need to replace it and oil it, if not just oil it. This is the most common reason you would have this problem.
If you did not solve your problem yet than check your sear which holds back the hammer. If it is rounded then the bolt will skip instead of re-cocking the gun. Make sure it is still sharp, if this is your problem you can buy a new sear or file the one you have.
good luck!
As soon as I screw on the CO2 supply cylinder, I
O-ring. If it is leaking near the tank, it is the o-ring on the tank. Otherwise, it could be one of many o-rings inside the marker. I would take it to a gunsmith and get all the o-rings swapped out.
How to set velocity on tippnan 98 custom
There is a velocity adjuster on the left side of the body, just below and to the right of the "N" in "TIPPMANN."
In order to adjust the velocity you need to be in a place where it is safe and legal to fire your marker (paintball field, with all bystanders protected by netting or paintball goggles.) You will need a chronograph and a 3/16-inch hex wrench.
The adjuster is a screw that blocks the gas flow from the valve to the bolt. If you screw it in (clockwise) it blocks more of the gas, so your velocity goes down. If you screw it out (anti-clockwise) it blocks less gas, so the velocity goes up.
Just take a shot over the chronograph to check your velocity, adjust and check again until you get it where you want it. Most paintball fields limit velocity to 285 feet per second. Never go above 300 feet per second, as velocities above that are unsafe (beyond paintball goggle ratings and can cause damage and infection on skin due to the heavy impact.)
It is important to test and adjust the velocity before each day of play, and even multiple times during the day as weather changes, because it is affected by temperature.
When i screw my tank on the CO2 goes right through
**** it and that should stop.
If that persists make sure you have cleaned the marker and used a good paintball oil to lubricate the internals.
At the next level you could have a o-ring that's old, brittle, broken and now is leaking by. Your local airsmith should be able to provide the necessary part(s) or fix it in short order for you.
Good luck!

I fire the gun and it doesnt wanna stay cocked i
One.. dirty...
Two.. no lube/wrong lube...
Three.. no air...
or any combination of the above. Make sure you have a full tank, clean the marker and use paintball-specific oil to lube the internals. The 98 is a very dependable marker and I'm sure once you have the basics down you'll find it very reliable.
Good luck!

Paintballs keep blowing up in my tippmann 98 custom HELP!
it could be a combination of a number of things.. most likely it has to do with the type of paint you're shooting; in regards to shell.. tippman guns are harder on paint therefore require a harder shell paint, also not all paintballs are exactly .68 caliber, meaning some a bigger and some are smaller.. could be that they're slightly to big for the bore of you barrell
