1986 yamaha big bear 350 cc will shift up but will

1986 yamaha big bear 350 cc 4x4 will shift up but will not shift down. It is now stuck in 6th gear and will not come out of this gear. This also stops it from starting anymore. Is there a common problem, silpler fix or is more likely that the transmission has to be completely stripped down to locate and fix the problem.

Its most likely to be the external part of the shift mechanism & therefore it would not need the transmission stripped
It is probably just 1 of the springs on the shift claw that is broken - this explains why it only shifts 1 way

I have a Yamaha big bear 350 4x4 I put new cv axis on both front still make grinding sound

If the CV Joints are new and correctly inserted, the most likely culprit for the noise would be the brakes. Remove the front wheels and turn the hub.

It could also be the front differential, or failed wheel bearings. Details in the link.

Shifter stuck solid in 6th gear. 2009 Yamaha V Star Classic 650

Possible shifter fork in the tranny is broken. Also inside the engine there is a little lever that pulls on a pin when shifting. That pin could be broken. Also pull in the clutch lever and try to push the bike if it moves then the clutches aren't stuck together if it doesn't move freely then its possibly a set of stuck clutch plates. That's a simple fix.

Gear shaft

If you are trying to change the boot over the U joint at the swing arm, you don't need to remove any shaft to do that. You do however have to remove the swing arm.
