Hi, Terry external oil deposits fall into 3 categories:
1. WEEPAGE is the oil that is sweated pass gaskets, seals, o-rings, and crankcase seams, it's covered by dry dust and is normal for older engines with lots of miles, no repair is necessary.
2. SEEPAGE is the same as weepage except the deposit is wet and confines itself to a specific area, the repair is optional depending on the owner's cleanliness criteria, the deposit location and the weight of his bag of "DRACHMA"
3. LEAKAGE is the same as seepage except it is enough to drop to the ground leaving a spot. Repair as necessary.
To find the source of your oil leak, start at the point where you see oil and trace its path going up and forward, blowing baby powder from the palm of your hand will help in those difficult to see areas if there is too much oil present then buy a spray can of engine degreaser apply it to the affected area then rinse off with a pressure wand or garden hose, use compressed air to blow off excess water or just let it drip dry, take your bike for a 15-minute ride and check for the leak.

SOURCE: Changing oil myself on my Harley

Its simple. Softails drain from the oil tank, not the engine. Look directly under the bike in the area of the tank. U will see a hose with a plug. Remov the plug and drain the tank. Refill with 2.5 qts of oil and yer done

SOURCE: oil drain plug

Hi
It is located on the right side just under the oil tank ; if you follow the rudder hose that exits the rear right side of your oil tank it leads to the bottom of the frame under this is the oil plug. This hose has a plug clamped to the end of it or stuck into a prug that is welded to the frame.
After this unclamp and pull the plug to make sure that you have the dipstick out before pulling it loose.

Please do rate the solution as "FixYa" if found useful and revert for further assistance.
Thanks Rylee

SOURCE: MY 1990 HARLEY SOFTAIL HAS NO SPARK BATTERY IS NEW AND IT TURNS OVER

Either the stator plate, or coil is not getting power. First thing I would check would be power from the coil with an ohmmeter.

2004 Harley Davidson FXSTD - FXSTDI Softail Deuce oil leaking from the air intake. @

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Oil tank/system overfilled.
2. Faulty breather valve.
3. Engine breather hose bent, pinched, kinked etc.
4. Air filter has too much "pre-oil".
5. Crankshaft seal failure allowing transmission fluid to migrate.
6. Blow by drain tube cracked/split or filled to capacity.
