A lot of things might cause that to happen...check valves if they need grinding and maybe the statae if its pushing out enough for a good spark or maybe replace c.d.i

Update bought new CDI box also bought new ignition coil, installed both and the bike seems to be taking the throttle but now it idles a little funny sounds like it's busting out, adjust a carburetor got the sound a little better so I figured I'd leave it at that and just run it for a little while and keep everyone posted

SOURCE: Vstar 650 classic. only will idle.

hello and welcome
this is a very very commom problem after the cycle has gone over a storage period of anything over a month or so. what has happened is the deteriorated fuel has plugged the idle jet, and possibley other jetting. this is verified by pulling out the choke allows it to run. because this makes of for the loss of fuel the jets are not produceing. so to fix this you will need to remove the carbs and take out the jets and clean them thoroughly with a carb cleaner and possibly a very small gauge wire to break up builup. especially in the pilot jet. unfortunately fuel added carb cleaners dont seem to work for this kind of problem and to fix right they should be disassembled and cleaned thoroughly. thank you.

SOURCE: kawasaki 300 bayou won't rev up.

No guarantees but try this. Pull the slide from the throat of the carb. Now move the clip on the jet needle down one notch. This will richen the low end mix. Two notches may be needed but do one notch at the start.

SOURCE: engine stalls when giving gas

Make sure you have the carb. fuel line on the correct side of carb. Not on primer bulb side.

SOURCE: won't idle steadily

Check the rubber boot that joins the carby to the engine to often have seen the hose clamps over tightened therefore creating a split in the rubber letting to much air in giving the rough idle eventually you wont be able to start it at all (have a good thorough look inside an outside of boot doesnt take much)

98 harley fatboy turns over but wont start

some after market ignitions don't spark on the first couple of turns but first take off your air cleaner twist the throttle and look to see if gas is spraying in the carb if not give it a little starting fluid if it fires but then dies then its carb issue. now other thing to check is if you have three posts on your coil then its single fire and your plug wires might be going to the wrong spot switch um around.
