Owww,,, was the bike running when the chain broke?? There is usually some valve to piston contact when this happens - BENT valves will NOT SEAT or SEAL!! Time to disassemble the top end!! Especially if you heard noises coming from the engine when it broke? You need to set the piston at TDC (Top Dead Center) and like the cam up with the marks on the head and cam chain gear,---- Make sure the timing marks on the flywheel are lining up..if not rotate the engine another 360 degrees until they do before starting this..You MUST CHECK THE COMPRESSION before attempting to start this engine.

SOURCE: need to remove the cam chain on my kawasaki zx6r

Cam chain replacement is a bit complex for a beginner. I don't recommend it. However, I would suggest the best way is to have a service manual at hand. Go to this site and you can download a free PDF service manual.www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp

The 2005 manual (4th from the bottom), is 11MB. You can go with the '05 manual as the service proceedure is the same as the 1998. The 2002 manual is 80 MB (scanned differently).

Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part and/or the notation "Not Available" is in the description, the part is not in stock. www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrandand/parts.aspx

Can I get a “very helpful” rating on this answer?

SOURCE: KLX 250 won't fire - new battery

-check the fuse right hand side below the fuel tank and seat, see if it is blown.
- Check to see if plug has spark, replace if necessary .
- Did you run the bike with a low battery before replacing it? could be that your stator is shot.
-Is bike trying to start but won't?

SOURCE: 1997 Kawasaki KLX 300 how to set valve clearance

Turn the motor to top dead center and ck the timming marks to make sure you are at the tdc mark it will be the third mark on the fly wheel in the direction rotation of motor or it will have a T mark. Ck to see if the valves keepers are loose or tight if they are tight turn the motor over 360 and ck again if they have play the use a .oo4 on the intake and a .oo6 on the exhaust then ck the compression and see what you get it's should be easy you should have a little bit of drag on the gage but not to much

2009 Kawasaki KLX 250 will not go into gear

1. Yes, this is a major issue! Its not the shift drum cam unless its broken in half. It might be the shift forks, Won't go into any gear? Is there spring pressure in the shifter or does it flop? Is the shifter TIGHT on the shift shaft? I think its time for a professional to look at it.

Im still breaking in my bike,,why is there a ticking sound in the engine while running?

All the parts in your engine are wearing in. Part of the 600 mile check up involves adjusting the valves and the cam chain tensioner (if it is not self adjusting). Chances are the valves are wearing in, the gap is too wide, and just need to be adjusted back to the correct clearance. Worst case scenario the cam chain tensioner has failed. http://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum/general-tech-9/klx-250s-2006-loud-clicking-sound-not-valve-33671/

Cam chain noise, bike is at the dealer ATM but claims he cannot fix or retension unless replacing chain etc? $190

Sure let him. All that work and put the old chain in to cause more problems or wreck something else, no way.

But get the old chain, and take it to a few shops, and if they would put in writing that the chain is in perfect shape and did not need replacing,
then never go to this place again.
