I have a 2002 Vulcan 800 classic and I've only owned for a few months. In the last, I've had a bunch of issues show up. 1. It won't run unless the choke out, but after a few attempts, I can get it to run with the choke in. 2. The front pipe for the exhaust gets super hot within minutes and the back pipe stays a lot cooler, also the back pipe backfires. Hopefully, someone can shed some light on a very frustrating situation. @

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, a few possibilities you may want to check/explore:
Basically, a general cleanup of the fuel lines, tank and the carbs. Sitting for some time tends to leave varnish like coating on most parts.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
SOURCE: Exhaust pipe rattles when car idles. Had muffler
Check the heat shield on the Catalytic Converter, after a few years they start to rust off and rattle. Crawl under the Pathfinder and bang along the Converter and muffler area and see where it's coming from.
Good chances are, it's from the heat shield since you already had everything changed from the Cat back.
Good luck and hope this helps.
SOURCE: Cant find oil dipstick or spy glass on 03 vulcan 800 classic
on my 1999 vn 800 the site glass is just under the kick stand..you will need some one to hold the bike level while you look at the oil level or stand it next to a wall or something to check the level, they are the same up to the 2005 models..

More information is needed - aftermarket pipes? any carb work been done to it? is fuel fresh? air filter condition? how are the plugs burning? oily black, white/tan?
SOURCE: Water turns cold very quickly
I had the EXACT same problem (installed my tankless last winter and worked fine, now this summer it fluctuates, have to turn the shower completely off and then on again to get any hot water and then it only lasts for a couple of minutes!) Argh - it is frustrating!
Here's what I found: the demand for hot water is lower during the summer (hot) months because the "cold" water coming in is already quite warm. You don't need as much hot water to make the shower temp comfortable. SO, my tankless was shutting off due to low flow demand. I've removed the flow restrictor from my shower head and it helped alot but didn't completely solve the prob. Next step is what has been recommended to me by several people but is much more expensive - change the pressure valve on your shower to a temperature valve. Or just wait til winter and it should work ok again :)
Testimonial: "I will give that a try because it is a long time until winter! Thanks."
