We know the battery and gears are ok so that leaves us with the control switch. With a 12 volt test light follow the voltage to the switch. Check to see if voltage is coming for the the switch to the motor.

It is a pretty big job for a weekend mechanic. You will need some special tools > Impact driver, torque wrench, expanding 'C' ring pliers, case splitter and flywheel puller. The entire engine, top end and bottom end must be torn down. Don't try it without the manual. The clicking noise is probably a broken tooth on a gear. ALWAYS replace gears in sets, ALWAYS. The grinding is most likely a bad bearing.

did you remove the high speed lockout? Its red and its on the shifter itself and c an be removed with a screwdriver, otherwise it sounds like one of the motors might be bad, you'll have to remove the dump box to test this, just disconnect one motor and try the gears, then reconnect it then disconnect the other motor then test the gears, this should tell you which motor is bad
