SOURCE: How do you read the oil level correctly on

All dipsticks have an upper and lower mark ..the top mark is the full mark and the lower mark is the add oil mark. Check it with the engine off on level ground.  Also after the motor running at take a few minutes for the oil to return to the oil pan to get an accurate reading.
Do not overfill.

SOURCE: Oil Pressure light stays on. Oil reservoir is

It occurred to me that you may find it by unplugging wires on the few items under the hood which may appear they could be the oil pressure sending unit.

The light should go out when the wire is unplugged, and if it does it is bad. That's your continuity test.

If you unplug the oil pressure sending unit and the light does not go out, the cause of the oil light staying on is something other than the oil pressure sending unit.

RE pete cass posting: I believe that if the sensor is diconnnected, the oil pressure light will not light (at least because of the oil pressure sensor switch being disconnected) -- the symptom here is the light won't go off. The switch is closed with oil pressure below 10-15 PSI and open above that oil pressure -- this is a normally closed switch.

2008 Kia Sorento, how long is the oil dipstick?

Make sure that you are using the correct oil for your car. To get an idea of how much oil you need; the gap between the marks on the dipstick usually represents around 1 litre of oil, so you know that if your oil mark was at the minimum, you need around a litre to top it up.

From the block deck surface to the "full" mark on the dipstick should be somewhere in the 10-7/8" to 11" range. I've compared dipsticks from several manufacturers, including genuine GM parts and several aftermarket pieces and they all fall in that range, with 10-7/8" being the most common measurement.

I just bought a 1994 chevy astro van and the woman told me she got the oil changed. what i need to know is the length of the dipstick because i think the wrong one was put back in. thank you

I don;t know and I suspect few people will know the dimension you seek. The repair manual might list the dimension but the best method will be by direct comparison with one known to be correct.

Many years ago Ford had engine trouble with one of their models - the cure was to modify the dipstick by making a new maximum mark an inch higher than the original and then cutting it short at the original minimum mark, thus raising the oil level.

I suspect this modification has been carried out many times on non-Ford dipsticks for various reasons.

An alternative method would be to drain the oil and then refill with the correct oil change only quantity which should appear on the correct dipstick as a level around midway between max and min.

Length oil dipstick

That measurement is not found in any book, outside of the factory where it was made.
However, look around at parking lots in the daytime, and find a car just like it, and politely ask the driver if you could please measure their dipstick.
Be blessed.

Hi, There should be two lines on the dipstick the proper oil level is the higher marking on the dipstick, the lower mark means you need oil putting in the engine. Please leave me feedback thanks, Malcolm Campbell.

Just changed oil in kia sorento 06 manuel transmission oil light stays on and clatters

Hi there,

DANGER....this is telling you there is NOT enough oil pressure. The clatter you hear means inadequate oil is reaching the cams or lifters.

Can you confirm you have used the correct grade & viscosity of oil? Is oil leaking?

Please re-check the oil level again - allow vehicle to sit for 5mins, then check oil level on the ENGINE dipstick. If dipstick level is up to the full mark, then assume you have enough oil and let the engine idle for 5mins.

If the clatter remains, then suspect a problem with the oil pump, or oil filter causing a blockage.

Cheers,
