So unless there is physical damage to the pedal, you need to get inside the cover and check the springs and selectors.

Turn the engine off, dismount, rock it forwards and back whilst trying to move the gear shift.

It always works on motorcycles. Check your oil when you get back. You may have a selector fork problem or a broken spring.

SOURCE: gear shift stuck in neutral when moving to park

1st check your shifter linkage-does the indication coincide with your gear recognition display in instrument cluster? most liley if it is not the linkage the gear recognition swith inside your shift box is defective-usually they get soda or coffee spelled on them and malfution. I would recomend having you car scanned for codes.

Sounds like a bad countershaft bearing. The trans will need removed and disassembled to fix it.

SOURCE: 04 Yamaha TTR 90 Difficult to Shift

Your description of the problem is classic for a bent shift fork. Call a couple dealers and get a base cost for the repairs. It would be best if you take the bike to a dealer and let them look at it to confirm my diagnosis and I think they will. A cost of $750 would not surprise me. The costly thing about changing a shift fork is that the engine comes out of the frame and then gets a complete tear down, both top end and bottom end. Now the fork can be changed out then engine / transmission re-assembly begins. This is not a recommended repair for the novice mechanic. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

SOURCE: 1986 yamaha big bear 350 cc will shift up but will

Its most likely to be the external part of the shift mechanism & therefore it would not need the transmission stripped
It is probably just 1 of the springs on the shift claw that is broken - this explains why it only shifts 1 way

SOURCE: 2001 montero sport check engine light on..neutral

Your check engine light is on because the computer picked up a problem with the vehicle. Take it to Autozone and they will scan it for free. They will let you know what is wrong and what parts you may need.

Drive it slowly to a reputable transmission shop. There is nothing you can fix yourself.

Selecting 3rd gear

Do you mean you can\'t find 3rd gear or it won\'t shift into 3rd gear? If you can\'t find 3rd gear, shift all the way down to neutral, then shift up 2 clicks. On my Suzuki Boulevard S-50 (VS-800) the shift order is 1st gear down, then up for neutral, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Your crotch rocket probably also has a 6th. If the problem is that it won\'t shift into 3rd, then you had best take it to the shop as it is not readily repairable without specialized tools and knowledge.

Hi, Kanskibingham for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. Hi there,

Well, it seems like there is a problem with the shift return spring; it's on the backend of the gear, Seems broken or not attached properly, so first of all do this check.

Good Luck!!
