I have a Yamaha 600 and have installed a new clutch cable. The problem is that I can't seem to get it adjusted correctly. The clutch won't draw tight.

SOURCE: CCM 604e 2001..how to correctly adjust clutch cable, clutch drags

Turn the clutch adjustment bolt towards the clutch-lever surface all the way in-not too tight. Feel the lever pressure as crisp, engage the first gear, and see if the bike moves when you engage; stops when you dis-engage. Give the adjustment-bolt a couple outward turns, and see. Repeat procedure as necessary.

sounds like the belt is wrong size. double check this, and if it is correct size make sure the secondary clutch is closing all the way.

SOURCE: Slipping clutch

The hydraulic clutch wont cause slip, unless the slave cylnder piston is stuck. The hydraulic part just replaces the cable
If its a wet clutch make sure you are using motorcycle oil, some car oils can cause clutch slip, If your using a synthetic oil, you might try a mineral oil to see it it makes a difference, 600 miles is not enough to wear the plates

Yamaha royal star motorcycle cluch whine and shudder in 4th and 5th gear at any speed

It is slipping. These big yamahas normally have slipping clutches. Mine slips, I've just learned to baby the clutch. Make sure you are in the most comfortable gear for the speed you are running at. Avoid rolling on full power at low speeds in higher gears. It's the nature of these great beasts. Clutch springs are too weak in these bikes, you may consider an aftermarket clutch spring assembly. The "shudder"(intermittent slipping) is caused by glazing. Make sure you are using the right lubricants for your bike, some synthetics can cause problems.

1)Adjust clutch cable correctly, check
2)Pull the clutch assembly apart, if there is little wear then you have "glazed" plates, clean each plate with 600 grit sandpaper and reassemble...get a new clutch spring assembly (weakened spring causes "shudder", slippage, and consequently glazing). Reassemble and adjust correctly (many forums out there with info).
3)Replace the full assembly and adjust correctly at setup. Adjust regularly....I check adjustment about every 300-500 miles.
4)Pay a shop to do these things for you.

My 1989 FZR 600 will not change into neutral or 2nd gear when the engine is running, but when you turn the engine off it will select neutral with no problem. The clutch adjustment on the lever is on its...

This problem normally only occurs when the clutch cable needs to be shortened to very littleplay at the lever. If you've lots of free travel in the lever, clutch pack is too tight and shift is hard.I'm sure you know that.Anyway, since is still a problem,I'd be checking the throut at clutch pack before replacing the clutch.Throught lever could be bent or out of position,or just worn out from playing hard. You know how we are.

Engine revs but nothing happens

Replace the clutch plates or adjust the clutch cable. Try the clutch cable first. What you have is a slipping clutch. It could be that the clutch cable is too tight and so the plates aren't mating fully when you release the lever, or it could be that the plates are worn out. But as it is getting worse it is most likely to be the clutch plates are worn.

This sounds like heavy duty springs in the clutch. Just have to get used to it. I suspect this is a cable actuated clutch correct? If it isn't then that does sound a little strange. Usually hydraulic clutch lever action is pretty easy... Good luck HDTV GURU JAY

1998 fzr 600 yamaha put it in gear let the clutch out nothing happens, pulled the clutch looks new.Do i have to pull the engine to pull the transmissiom out?

there should be an adjuster screw and lock nut on the clutch cover plate that will adjust the play in the clutch mechanism and cable. adjust that and play with the clutch until it engages and disengages correctly

Clutch issue 2003 katana

First check cable routing no tight bends this will be obvious ,then check the cable pull arm engine side of cable is located properly if removed. If no luck check the edges of the clutch basket for notches where the outer edge of the plates touch,if so gently file. Have the same amount of plates gone in that came out.Allso compair plate thickness with old is the kit correct. hope this helps if not contact again.

Paul,
Your Yamaha seems to be needing a clutch adjustment.
You can adjust this on your own by turning the adjusting nut out (at the handlebars) to take up the slack. If that doesn't fix the issue completely, turn the nut back to where it was, and adjust the cable at the clutch housing (right side). Start in small adjustments, and work your way from there. When you get it close, go back to the adjusting nut located at the handlebars and do the fine tuning there. Be sure to leave some slack from full release of the handle to where you feel the clutch tension start. If you don't, the clutch will not fully engage. If this doesn't fix the issue, let me know and we can go from there.
Hope this helps
