I have a 2000 Harley Davidson 1200 sportster. I recently found that my fuel line was leaking, I ordered replacement parts from Harley and spent a few hours taking the carburetor off and fixing the fuel line. I put everything back together as it was, go to turn the bike over... and nothing. I got a split second of backlight on my dash but then nothing again. There is no "N" for neutral, no headlight, no horn. I replaced all four 20 amp fuses in box, tested battery (Which is brand new), I'm honestly stumped. Anyone got any ideas?

Really sounds like you are missing a ground. Take a close look where you were working and see if you have a loose or disconnected wire.

SOURCE: Can I split the flywheel on a 2000 Sportster

This is a job that I would not touch without spending the money on a manuel, it's the best $60.00 you can spend.

SOURCE: None of the lights work, headlight and turn signals. Dash lights

The circuit breakers on your bike are under the seat- if you have an ohm-meter handy, pull them out one at a time and check them for continuity. If they all check good (meaning reading as a short across the terminals) the problem is elsewhere, and will need to be traced out. If you find a bad breaker that will not reset on it's own, replace it and try your lights again. If they come on momentarily then go out again- or they don't turn on, and you find a tripped breaker again, the problem is almost for sure a hot wire touching the frame, and will turn into a weekend project. Please let me know if this helps!

I would guess stale gasoline or fuel. Try fresh fuel in the tank. If this doesn't clear the problem, you could need to have your carburetor or fuel injection system cleaned. I'm not even sure if they put fuel injection on Sportsters since I don't work on fuel injected bikes. I mostly work on the older bikes like Panheads, Shovelheads, Evos. Not too many Sportsters but have worked on a lot of Ironhead Sportsters. Try the fuel first. It's a cheap fix. Hope it works for you. Good luck with the knee replacement. My wife had one knee replaced and it works great.

Carby over fueling on 1200 sportster harley davision

If you carb is overflowing, you probably have a bit of trash in your needle and seat. The way to get it out is to turn the fuel off at the petcock. Then pull the fuel line loose at the carb, careful don't break the plastic fuel inlet. Take the four bolts that hold the float bowl on out and lower the bowl. With the bowl off, the float will drop all the way down as low as it will go opening the needle and seat as wide as it will go. Using compressed air, blow through the fuel inlet. Keep the pressure around 30 pounds of pressure or so, not 150 psi. Replace the bowl, the fuel line and turn the fuel back on. If it still leaks, you'll have to take the carb off and have it cleaned out and rebuilt.
