Smelling gas that is not burning from plugs on my 1999 hd Night Train, do I need new spark plugs or what?
Hi, Jamie and the usual suspects are:
1. Excessive choke use.
2. High-speed riding style.
3. Idle speed improperly adjusted.
4. Dirty air cleaner element (may also affect idle speed).
5. Restricted fuel tank vent system.
6. Vacuum piston assembly malfunction.
7. Excessive accelerator pump output.
8. Plugged or restricted bowl vent.
9. Float level too high.
10. Loose carburetor jets.
11. Worn or damaged needle or needle jet.
12. Choke valve not seated or leaking.
13. Plugged air jets or passages.
14. Low air pressure in the tires.

did you check the gap on the spark plug? even though you buy it new sometimes the gap is off? that could make it run rough. you can also try turning the distributer to adjust the timeing but i would check the gap first? also check the gap in the cap.
