The clutch is a mechanical connection of the engine to the drivetrain. It would not cause what you are describing. This is either an ignition issue or a problem with the intake. Intake problem could be anything from valves to fuel supply

There are nice adjustable levers avaliable at your Ducati store. A good thing if you have smaller hands. Doesn't cure the sudden engagement, but maybe makes it easier to control.
SOURCE: temp gauge going up too high on honda 125 bike
hi m8,,u need to test the thermostat, usually only has one wire running off it,,and sits behind cylinder head or in the rad its self,, u can test it by boiling up some water and dippin the thermostat in ,, and seein if it moves,, if u have the stud version of thermostat, then a tester will be needed,, red wire onthe live connection of thermostat and black tester wire just touchin the body of the thermostat,,the needle should move slowly up reading ,after being dippt in hot water,,if no readings or movement then u will have to replace it,,also check that the wires on the temp gauge are not corroded,

This same thing happened to mine. It only happened in really cold weather though. I added a few inches more of coolant into the overflow. It fixed the problem. I also discovered if that is not the problem, the sensor in the overflow can go out and a replacement is about 20 bucks.

Make sure you have your stand up before you put it in gear. Some bikes have a stand switch that doesnt allow the bike to be in gear while the stand is down. This switch may have been damaged when the bike fell and now be malfunctioning.
