My 1993 soft tail Harley while riding the headlight gets real bright and then I'll here a loud pop. The lights go out and my battery is completely dead. What could this be?

SOURCE: harley davidson battery went dead after riding

1.What?

2.What?
You charged the battery off of the battery charger with a trickle charge. The battery wouldn't charge while you're riding, because your alternator took a cr@p.
(Sorry if I seem gruff, but I'm an old biker, and Harleys are all I ride. I'm also a Harley mechanic.
Shhhh! I don't want that to get around! lol!)

3.Battery is at 13.4 volts now? What is the specific gravity of the acid in each cell? Don't have a hydrometer? Do you have a load tester? No? Since you measured the voltage, do you have a multimeter?

Test the voltage with the bike running. It should be around 14.6 volts when charging, less with the battery fully charged.
Don't get the correct reading, then you better look at alternator replacement. (Regulator is built in)

THE HOOD IS MECHANICAL MEANING ITS JUST A WIRE PULLING A LATCH. HAVE SOMEONE PULL UP ON THE HOOD AS YOU PULL THE LEVER TO OPEN THE HOOD. IF THE BATTERY IS DEAD THEN GO TO THE REAR SEAT. ON BOTH SIDE RIGHT AND LEFT, JUST UNDERNEATH THE REAR SEATS ARE THESE LITTLE HOLES . FIT YOUR FINGERS IN THERE AND PRESS UP ON THE SEAT. DO THE SAME TO THE OTHER ISDE. THE BATTERY IS THERE UNDER ALL THAT STUFF. JUMP IT FROM THERE.

2004 Harley Davidson FLSTFI Fat Boy headlight and tail light not working @

Hi, Debbie if your headlight is not working, intermittent, only one beam works at a time, keeps burning out, blinking, dim or surges from bright to dim to bright the first thing you need to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, then check your headlight bulb socket ground wire for a clean tight connection, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply wire to the headlight bulb socket.
2. Worn down solder contacts or loose fit of the bulb base in the socket due to vibration.
3. Worn, chafed, or broken wires in the light circuit.
4. Corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets in wire connectors.
5. Faulty hi/low beam switch.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
8. Faulty headlight relay.
9. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.
10. Weak charging alternator/generator/lighting coil
11. Faulty voltage regulator/rectifier ground or overcharging.

Harley sportster headlight and brake light work but not the turn signals. Engine lights does not come on and bike wont start

The soft click sounds like the starter relay. Check that out first and see that current is getting through when it soft clicks. ARE there any codes set??? What led up to this???

Headlights only work on bright

i had this happen with my dodge ram 1500. the guy i bought it from put 350 dollar moon lit lights in with leds and they looked impressive but the issue was that they didnt go bright and i could only see 40 feet in front of me and i was sure taping led flashlights would have done me more good that those stupid headlights. then i had the idea of if the brights work and the dims dont then that means no electricity is getting to the dims so i decided to bridge the power from the bright headlight to the dims and it made all four work. now they all work, and only on bright. so im figuring there is a issue with the wiring in the truck. so this is a temporary solution if you really need just plain old lights like i did because i live out in the country

2011 roadglide wont crank.checked battery 12.9 volts.checked fuses and relays.checked cables all tight no corrosion. headlights bright radio loud fuel pump loads up ,checkedkill switchstill wont crank.can...

As I remember, one of my friends had a newer Harley and the computer chip in the key would prevent starting the bike. It can be a keychip problem or a reader problem for the antitheft system.

The Harley dealer can probably check your keychip for you. If the problem is not the keychip, then it is a problem in the bike and you will need to tote your ride to the Harley house.

883 wont start

The battery might just be done or warn out, if you get lights when you turn the key on, and can honk the horn and everything, then it should click, if you are able to honk the horn and lights etc. and they aren't real weak, when you hit the starter it should tick, if your lights are bright and horn is loud and brake light responds quickly, then I'd ask a Harley dealer about it.

1998 valkrie wont turn over

Your battery is most likely the cause. The tail light and dash light do not draw much juice from the battery. However the headlight and starter are a different story. Are you absolutely sure you turned everything off before you took your break? If you are and you don't ride your bike a lot you should get a trickle charger for it. Use it when not riding. It will prevent you battery from completely losing it's charge thus protecting the battery.
If you do ride often then you should have the battery tested. You may need a new one. Remember that once a battery has been drained too low, permanent damage can occur.
