you can check the water pump leak yourself as there is a small drain hole in the lower part of the bearing housing that lets the water leak out if the seal is failed
you will see a stain at this point running down the front of the motor
as for the oil leak you will see moist dust on the motor or oil spots on the floor where you park the car
best advice is to look for yourself, keep an eye on the reservoir for the radiator or check the water level in the radiator at the cap
if you have to add water then replace the water pump
check the oil on the dipstick regularly and if you have to add less that 1 pint every 5000 miles then the leak is of small worry
Find yourself an accredited service shop that is familiar with your vehicle as many mechanical shops to don't have the training necessary to be accredited
It is very unusual for oil to run from a water pump, but you can get a leak from the grease that lubricates the bearing. If you do have what looks like oil or grease, you probably need a new pump.
Hi clongis..
The answer is NO they could not have caused an oil leak if all they changed was the water pump.
When you torque the bolts on the water pump no matter how tight or loose it will not cause an oil leak.
Check to make sure it is an oil leak first instead of black burned oil leaking from the exaust housing.
If it is an amber color then it is drive unit oil and can come from the seals of the lower unit propeller housing, or under the water pumps stainless steel bottom plate.
Which means it is time to repair the leaky seals before they cause you to have lower unit failure...VERY EXPENSIVE.

If the oil plug bolt is leaking you need a new aluminum sealing washer. There are no oil weep holes in the front of the motor. Is it the weep hole under the water pump? You probably have a bad water pump seal or a bad oil seal on the water pump shaft. Buy a new water pump and the K&L water pump gasket kit. The K&L gasket kit comes with all the gaskets, seals, and washers necessary to do the water pump replacement for a fraction of the cost of the OEM Honda individual gaskets, seals, and washers.
You have a seal on the pump between the pump and the water pump thats leaking you have oil and water mixing . I owen three mechines and i don't understand what you mean when you say the oil filler stem. I also rebuild power washers and pumps. If you can clarify where the water and oil mixture is comeing out then i can tell you excatly what the leak is thanks
your rear seal (oil) pump and mybe your engine seal both are out. do you have water in the pump oil? if so your water seals are out too. need to get A comlete seal kit for the pump.
I think that car has a transverse mounted motor. if that is the case, the area that you see coolant is probably coming from the weep hole on the water pump shaft. that is the precursor to a bearing failure. that is where i would look first. if you get coolant on the pass side floor of the car, then it would be the heater core. hope that helps.
your water pump is leaking and most likely you had a small oil leak under there also and now the coolant is washing it out, don't go too long with these leaks because your timing belt is under there and is getting soaked with oil and and coolant this will break or slip off causing major engine damage to result (i.e bent valves) good luck and please rate -jeff
