Hi, there is no petcock on a fuel injection Harley. There is a fuel filter inside the fuel tank which will prevent debris getting to injectors so there should be no need to clean injectors. Never had to do it myself in all my years. What you may have is a fuel leak inside the tank on the high pressure side. Have you checked for and engine code (DTC's). If so, post them as they may lead to the problem. If you have access to a fuel pressure gauge, fuel pressure should be around 60 PSI. Anything lower than 45 ish PSI you have a fuel pressure problem for sure.

Hello Samantha! Q:Have you paid any attention to your PETCOCK lately? IT is controlled by INTAKE VACUUM [suction!] You need to drain the old fuel completely,& LOOK right there under the tank are vacuum lines 1/4''? to the PETCOCK. Renew 'em tulsmuc

2005 Harley Davidson FXSTD - FXSTDI Softail Deuce carburetor coughing @

Hi, Anonymous if your carburetor or exhaust is:
COUGHING is usually caused by an air leak in the intake system and will generally have the same telltale signs, a wet or damp build-up of oil/gas seepage at the intake manifold to the cylinder head or carburetor to intake manifold connection and in rare instances a worn throttle plate shaft and or seals.
POPPING on deceleration is usually caused by a lean fuel condition or an air leak in the exhaust system and is generally located where black carbon soot is seen as a flashing build-up from any joint connection. This condition can easily be remedied by removing and cleaning both joint pieces and reassembling with high temp silicone and torquing the exhaust clamp to the proper spec.
SPITTING is usually caused by a faulty accelerator pump and or nozzle, or the float bowl needle and seat leaking and overflowing through the main jet mixing well nozzle, or the air-fuel mixture screw is adjusted too lean.
BACKFIRING is usually caused by a sticky/tight intake valve or a timing issue, 180 degrees out or cam chain off 1or 2 teeth.

Is the 2000 harley heritage softail classic fuel injected or carburetor ?

You'll have to check with either a dealer or look in a "Black Book of Motorcycle Values" to see if H-D offered that year model with fuel injection. Look for a listing for a FLSTCI. The "I" indicates that the bike was fuel injected. I don't think fuel injection was available on the Softail until 2003 but I may be wrong on that. I am not a dealer nor have I ever worked in a Harley dealership. I'm an independent mechanic that worked on Harley-Davidson for years. I'm retired now.

Good Luck

My 2006 flstni coughs and backfires. In cold and / or damp weather it is worse.

If it's fuel injected, your dealer should be able to remedy that problem, it sounds like it's running a bit lean. He'll have to change the fuel delivery a tad.

Good luck

Curious about what the letters signify in harley davidson motorcycle model FLSTN/FLSTNI. I assume STN = SofTail Nostalgic, what is FL & I?

F means it has overhead valve "big v-twin"
L means wide front tire
ST-Softail like you thought
N-Nostalgia like you thought
I means fuel injected (they used to offer with a carb)

hope that helps
