You need a pin-out diagram or test diagram for the CDI box in question and a multimeter. You should be able to get the former from a friendly Suzuki dealer, a less friendly CDI maker or by searching on the internet.

Basically, you check the resistance across certain pins and check that it conforms to what the factory expect. If it deviates in any way, you hit the old one with a hammer to make sure it doesn't ruin some other poor sod's day and go buy a new one.

The last one I bought cost me au$125 and was for a CBR1000.

I suggest you take the CDI to an auto-electrician or bike mechanic and save yourself an afternoon of frustration. Extra bonus is they will probably have a replacement unit you can buy which will save you a trip.

Try change your spark plug first in case it is not your cdi unit.

How do I replca the cdi unit

straight forward, changing over one wire at a time. I'd buy a service manual, it will offer test procedures to be sure it's the cdi that's bad (the most expensive part of an ignition), and other tests to be sure a new cdi won't up and burn out.

There is no spark coming from the spark plug(new), there is power coming to the cdi, but none coming from the coil from the cdi unit

It sounds like either the cdi has become faulty, or it is imobilised due to either the safety switch on clutch lever, side. Stand, ignition switch, or engine kill switch, the only way to test the cdi is to replace it, some circuit tests on the unit may be possible, but only a new unit will eliminate the fault

How do i test my CDI unit? Shindengen CF405J.

The only way to test this unit is to take it off and bring it inn to a dealer that has the proper testing equipment but more often will haft to be sent into the manafacture of the CDI unit to be tested if it is working properly. Unfortunanlty the equipment to test the CDI unit is extremely expensive and most small dealers dont carry the equipment to test all these different units besides yours. The only way to do this is to get the unit to the proper testing equipment. Unfortunantly you will haft to toake there word for it but usually if this fails the bike will run erracticlly or not at all. Good luck.

83 yamaha tt600e no spark

I WILL TAKE A WILD SHOT AT THIS
MT EXPERIANCE WITH YAMAHAS IS GOING TO MAKE ME SAY CDI IS BAD.

ONE WAY OF QUICKLY CHECKING THIS IS KICK IT ARE TRY TURNING THE ENGINE OVER WITH THE STARTER..NOW IT WILL HAVE TO TURN OVER QUICKLY SO IF THE BATTERY IS DOWN USE THE KICK STARTER.AS YOU ARE DOING THIS TURN THE KILL SWITCH ARE THE BUTTON OFF AND ON IF GIVES YOU A SPARK MOST LIKELY IT'S THE CDI. NOW IT WILL NOT SPARK EVERY TIME WHEN YOU ARE TRYING THIS

**CAUTION** I HAVE SEEN THE PLUGS THAT CONNECT TO THE CDI BE BAD SO DO A CONTNUITY TEST ON THE CONNECTIONS GOING TO THE CDI AND ANY OTHER ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

**CAUATION** BAD SPARK PLUG CAPS YOU CAN ACTUALLY SCREW THE PLUG INTO THE COIL WIRE IT'S SELF.TO TEST THAT

GET A GOOD 12 VOLT TEST LIGHT AND FIRST TEST YOUR FIELDS COMING UP FROM YOUR FLYWHEEL AREA.YOU CAN GET THE LIGHT TO LIGHT UP THEN YOU HAVE YOUR MAIN POWER SUPPLY DELIVERING.NEXT CHECK TO SEE IF YOU ARE GETTING 12 VOLTS TO YOUR COIL.MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS IN GOOD SHAPE ALSO.

NOW TO TEST THE COIL I CAN NOT GO INTO HOW TO BENCH TEST IT NOW.THE FIRST THING IS TO LOOK VERY GOOD TO SEE IF ANY OIL IS LEAKING FROM IT.LOOK GOOD IT WILL BE VERY LIGHT.IF SO YOU WILL END UP HAVING TO REPLACE IT.HOWEVER YOU MAY STILL BE ABLE TO GET A LITTLE SPARK TO THE PLUG.

REMEBER IT SHOULD MAKE A GOOD SNAPING SOUND AND A BLUE ARC.,ORANGE ARE REDISH WILL NOT DUE.

HOPE THIS HELPS CONTACT ME IF YOU NEED MORE HELP
