I had this same issue for my 2016 R6. When to the mechanic. He removed the tank, the upper throttle body and showed me the rpm sensor. There is a small screw at the bottom of the sensor. He adjusted that two three times and Idle was back to 1500 Rpm.

SOURCE: idling the bike, wont hold an idle

It sounds as if you have dirt in your fuel line or some bad gas.
I would recommend draining your tank and cleaning it, then replace your fuel filter.

SOURCE: bike idles, but with a little throttle it jumps to high rev and wont come back down to idle

You need to oil your cables first....They make a gadget to help you do this...it clamps around the end of the cable, and you spray oil into a provided hole for a spray nozzle tube...Then see if the cables are unstuck by turning the throttle grip back and forth for awhile....start it and see if that helped....if not you may need to replace the cable(s)...I doubt that the slide in the carb is hanging up...or valve. If this doesn't work notify me.

SOURCE: 97 YAMAHA YZF 1000,wont start itself after bike is warm

Have you checked the ground lead?

Make sure it is clean, it runs down and bolts to the top right hand side of the crank case.

Sometimes what happens is, that lead gets grime on it, oil or corrosion.. and it doesn't make good contact. The lights, spark ETC load the crank case and frame full of DC.. when you shut the bike off the dc cant flow through the starter so it won't turn over.

after a while the dc trickles out it will let the bike start again.

Hope thats it and it works for you, good luck!!

P.S. how is he liking his ace?? Awsome bike, I have had mine since 1999, and it not about to go anywhere!!

SOURCE: Starts then shuts off if put in gear

Check the side stand kill switch. It kills the engine so that you don’t start out with the side stand down. Broken or out of adjustment, it would make the bike die as soon as you put it in gear or release the clutch. Check for a broken wire at the switch or coupler. Get a service manual and check out the electrical section. Some bikes have a diode integrated into the turn signal relay. Try moving the kill switch by hand. If that doesn’t work then wire a jumper around the switch to bypass it. If that doesn’t work, check out the relay. Chances are that your '83 does not have the special relay.

Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock. www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrandand/parts.aspx

Check out the tab "ELECTRICAL 2" at the bottom of the diagram, item #15. Babbit's has them in stock, $60.00. I don't get paid for my answers but I do take pride in them, and I am only trying to help. So if you will, > > A “very helpful” rating for this answer? Thanks!

SOURCE: Idles real high then dies and gets pipe red hot.

Sounds like you have too much fuel entering the engine .check the spark plug and see what colour it is .it should be a brownish pink .

I have a honda vtx 1800c, It has new plugs, wires and injectors, it will idle just fine when cold, but when it warms up the idle goes down to nothing until the bike doesnt run.

Not uncommon, I cheated, I set mine to idle when warm and let it idle a little fast when cold. It warms up and then idles fine. Unless you want to spend the money on a carb rebuild which didn't work for me or spen the money on a new carb which expensive, just set the idle when hot.

Honda shadow vt1100c 1986 idile to low after running awhile

There's an idle adjustment screw. The bike runs faster when cold because the fuel\air adjustment is richer on a cold engine. When the bike warms up, the fuel becomes more lean in mixture because the heat causes the fuel to expand, i.e., less molecules of fuel to the firing sequence of the piston. When the bike is warmed up, after say ten minutes, the heat causes a leaner mixture, so adjust the idle on a hot engine (about 1000 rpm more or less). The bike will idle faster when cold, then drop rpm's as the engine warms up. Good luck

OIL LIGHT ON AND OFF AFTER ENGINE WARM UP ENGINE KNOCKS AFTER WARM UP 20W50 OIL IN NOW OIL IS NOT LOW.B WHEN ENGINE IS FIRST STARTED RUNS LIKE A DREAM THEN STARTS MAKING NOISE AND OIL LIGHT COME ON AT IDLE...

First of all , change your oil pressure sender . It should be easy to do and relatively inexpensive. See if that fixes the oil light going on and off. If the light stays on after that , turn off the bike and replace the oil pump. If you have a bad oil pump and continued to drive the bike , you may have caused serious damage to the motor and may end up having to disassemble the engine to determine the cause of the knock.

My 1994 xr6004 has good compression and has had a new top end, it runs awesome and kicks over fairly easy when cold and runs/drives great, but as soon as it warms up and you shut it off or it stalls out,...

The fuel in the carburetor float chambers is boiling while it sits, and flooding the engine. If it has a fuel petcock turn that off, and let the bike stop through fuel starvation. Then there will be no fuel in there to boil.

A no start when hot starts and runs good when just warm or cold no start when fully warm

There is a sequence to follow when these bikes are hot to get them started. But first.Does the bike start easily when hot if it is push started? If the answer is yes,you need to use the hot start pull switch on the carby and the get the motor in compression before you pull in the small compression lever and slowly push on the kickstarter halfway down.Release lever and fully kick the motor over from the top of the kickstarter.Don't let these bikes sit around idling. They will overheat because they need air to get through the radiator.Hope this helps

749 Starting Problem

I don't think there's anything wrong with your bike. I'm assuming that all the required services have been done and you have a good battery. The **9 bikes absolutely require a good strong battery. If you don't already have one get and use a battery tender. It will save you a lot of headaches with a weak battery. As for the starter speed, the 749 turns over S-L-O-W-L-Y. It's normal, if you're use to other makes it sounds like it won't start but it will. The Fast Idle lever, not a choke, once you start the bike, let it idle about 2000 RPM or so until the coolant temp gage stops flashing, then you can slowly back the lever to minimum, if you if you just push the lever back fast it drops the idle too fast and it will die. When it's not fully warm and you have a stock injection map it runs a little lean and will be cold blooded until fully warm. The occasional stall on a cold morning is not unusual even on a properly set up bike. I normally on cool mornings keep my fast Idle lever up until I'm either on a highway/freeway or a five or so miles in town before I turn it full off. She can be a real bitch to start if she's only a little warm, not cold/not hot, I really don't know why but mine does the same thing. I give it a minute and try again and she'll fire. All this goes away once she's fully warmed up. Once you get the knack of it you'll be fine, I don't even really have to think about it anymore.

COLD MORNING

no doubt this bike is running very lean at idle. Thats the way the EPA wants it. Im a harley mechanic and i used to work in a US dealer. all carb bikes at set up time had the carbs "readjusted". We drilled out the EPA plug and turned the idle air screw out and drilled out the pilot jet too. The bikes worked much better. we were at sea level too so the bikes were very lean from the factory. I can imagine that after the new legislation that came into force they are even leaner and require a full warm up to run properly. Warmed up means you put your hand on the motors head and its hot enought to have to jerk it away. this could take more than a couple minutes. and yes our "readjustment" was illegal. i advice you to do the same.
