How to replace drive belt on a 1993 harley davidson heritage softail classic?

To remove a Softail drive belt FIRST remove the rear wheel then remove the primary chain, the clutch, the engine compensating sprocket, and the chain adjuster as an assembly, then remove the primary chaincase housing, place a support under the rear fork and engine, remove the pivot shaft and spacer, slip the drive belt off from the transmission sprocket.

To replace a Softail drive belt FIRST not that all belts, used or new, must never be formed into a loop smaller than 5.0 in. (130 mm), and must never be bent backwards because this can severely weaken the belt and cause premature failure if it, then install the belt over the transmission sprocket, install the pivot shaft and spacer, remove the support holding the engine and rear fork, install the primary chaincase housing, the primary chain, the clutch, the engine compensating sprocket, and the chain adjuster and the primary chaincase cover, fill primary the primary chaincase with oil, install the rear wheel, align the rear wheel and properly adjust the belt tension to the specified deflection.

How to remove 2004 softail fork lock

I don't have the instructions for the Softail but I do for the Dyna series bikes. I'm pretty sure it'll be the same.

Loosen the upper triple tree clamp pinch bolts and remove the upper triple tree and handlebars.

Raise the front end off the ground and loosen the fork stem bolt and allow the front fork assembly to drop down approximately 5 inches.

On the left side of the steering stem thare is a "half-moon" indentation that has been machined into to steering stem for the lock. Let the steering stem drop until this indentation is in full view.

Now, there is a set screw that holds the lock into the frame steering head. The set screw screws upward into a recess in the lock mechanism. The set screw is covered by a lead plug so that it is not easily seen or gotten to. The book says to use a scribe to remove the lead plug.

Unscrew set screw.

Insert a key into the lock and turn slightly

Wiggle and pull the lock assembly until you get it worked out far enough to get hold of the lock with a pair of pliers or something.

Rotate the steering stem slightly until the lock comes out.

Good Luck

The fork oil is a very specific job needing a manual and a special tool, I don't want to insult anyones mechanical knowledge but if you have never done it before, best to take somewhere else. Engine oil on the other hand is easy, the drain tube to any softail is on the right side by where the frame meets the swing arm, has somekind of plug in it. Start and run bike for a little while, long enough to get it warm but not hot. Remove fill plug and then remove plug in drain line. Using a peice of cardboard or something put in between filter and frame , directing the oil to your drain pan instead of where ever it goes. Put 1 qt oil back in (after everything is reinstalled) start the bike and make sure the oil light goes out, when it does shut bike off and fill to the point that when it is standing upright you get a little oil on the tip of your finger, over filling may result in loss of oil cap from pressure (been there)

After lifting, carefully pry calipers back (slightly) just enough so front wheel will spin freely. Remove speedometer cable at wheel (if you have one). Then, put a phillips screwdriver through hole in front axle (this just gives you something to pull the axle out with). Then remove the big axle nut. Then remove the lower axle half-clamps. These are the little nuts on bottom. Some forks only have one, & if this is the case, then use the phillips to pull the axle out sideways while supporting tire. Assembly is the reverse of this procedure.
