Timing chain slap

Ive been told the the noise im hearing at low rpms is a loose timing chain and that its pretty easy to tighten i just need to loosen a bolt and its spring loaded and will adjust its self. hard to explain which one it is but i had it pointed out to me. any way is any of this true?

I got a running problem with my 750 zephyr, starts fine on full choke (cold) but if I 'try' to open thottle it dies. I really have to play with choke and throttle in order to get it to run. When warm its slightly better but still unrideable.Someone said "carbs" - Ive had them off so many times:- stripped them, ballanced them, checked for air leaks, fitted bigger main jets , Now on a 2nd set of carbs from a nice running zephyr! seems as its running weak and of course new plugs etc. Still No change!! Has anyone out there got any ideas. I'm getting pretty pissd now!!! Phil

Noise in primary when releasing the clutch sounds like chain slapping

It could be the primary chain slapping. When is the last time it was adjusted? Take the inspection cover off that's in the center of the primary cover. Reach in with your finger and lift the top run of the primary chain. It should be between 3/4" and 7/8" up and down slack in the chain with the engine cold. If it's too loose, loosen the nut on the adjuster just inside the inspection cover opening and raise the shoe to tighten the chain. Retighten the nut once you get it set correctly. If that's not the problem, it could be that the clutch discs are glazed. This is rare on the newer model bikes but I have seen it on a few occasions. The clutch disc will need to be taken out and cleaned and sandpaper used to slightly scuff the surface of the fiber discs. Try adjusting the chain first.

Ford sport trac, 4.0 dry start , and then continue ticking sound ,ive been told timimg chain

how many miles on the vehicle? does the noise quieten down when the engine RPMs come up? timing chain is very likely if you have over 150,000 miles. lifter noise is a more common problem. the lifters will tend to quieten down as the RPMs come up due to more oil pressure.

I am trying to determine if the adjustment bolt located below the carbs between the second and third cylinders is for setting the cam chain tension and how to set it . There is some cam chain noise at low...

Yes, it is the cam chain tensioner. With the engine off, just loosen the tensioner lock bolt then strongly tap a few times on the tensioner casing with a screwdriver handle. This will free up the spring loaded tensioner. Now just re=tighten the tensioner lock bolt and you're done. Please rate my answer. Thanks. tombones49_157.gif

Slapping noise after chain adjust

hi there,,1,5, to two inches is correct,, is that all the way round by the way, sometimes u can have a tight spot,,it seems correct sometimes wen adjusted in one position,, but spin the rear wheel round it will either slacken quite a bit,, or go very tight, with no play in it,,,your cush drive rubbers behind the rear sprocket housing on the wheel,, may have a bit of wear in it,, or the chain haz a stiff link in the line,, and needs more oiling,, if the chain is dry ,and right now in salty conditions it will be, then that will cause chain slap,,,

SPLUTTERS AND DIE

First what kind of noise. Plus did you replace the cam chain tenisor when you replaced the chain. That will make a noise in the top end. Other than that piston slap will cause some noise but you will hear it more at higher rps most of the time. I have seen a lot of problems latly where the tank does not breathe properly so it will start spudder then die a few times. Usually it is the gas cap.,
