Cannot start not using the choke and rpm flattens at 4000 rpm

I have a 1997 Kawasaki ZR 400. Previously when I used to ride it I noticed that RPM flattens at 3500 rpm for a few seconds and ramps up again. This bothers me because on uphill dive it loses power at 3500. Ined to reve up beyond 3500 before I climb a hil. After sometime of no using the bike it did not start when atempted to. So what I did was cleaned the carb and repalce 4 orings of the air screw.

After assembling I noiced that it won't start without the choke. And once it started RPM flattens at 4000 RPM for a few seconds and ramps up again. I also noticed that the idling is not stable. From revoluton it would idle at around 2500 and slowly goes down until it dies. Tried adjusting the idl stop screw but same poblem.

Can anyone give me the solution? May I know how much back turns is needed for the air screw?

The air screw and the idle screw turn inward until they LIGHTLY seat, then back out one and one half turns. For the dead spot, pull the slide out of the carb and move the clip on the jet needle down one notch. Two notches if needed.

The pilot jet covers the idle function. It sounds like this is not the problem though. The high idle indicates a lean fuel mix. An air leak is leaning the mix. It could be bad intake manifold gaskets, carb and manifold not down tight, loose spark plug, cylinder head not tight, bad head gasket.

If you do want to adjust the pilot jet the, often it is adjustable from the outside of the carb. It is normally located just out side and next to the main jet. It will be brass and have a slot for a small screw driver. If no outside screw, then an inside adjustment screw means removing the float bowl. Turn the jet screw outward 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

It has been bothering me that you have to rev up in order to go uphill. Go to a dealer and have them check the compression. I am thinking you may have some bad valves.

My 1996 Toyota Camry is having starting problem. It turns over but won't start unless I floor the gas pedal. Once she's running, she runs like a charm. She starts right up when I'm driving running errands....

all cars have automatic choke system when the engine is cold the choke is automaticall at onn

you must have noticed that when the car was ok and was cold started it use to stay at high rpm and after its warm the rpm reduces

so get your choke settings checked or needs some part to change in the choke system

At what speeds should you shift gears in a 1999 Mazda B2500?

Shifting is determined more accurately by rpm's not speed. If you have a tach in the car, run the motor up to where you feel performance "flatten out" Regard that as your max rpm (for all gears) shift as needed about 500-700 below that number and all will be fine. (example: if motor flattens out at 3500 rpm, you should be shifting at 3,000 rpm or if not accelerating hard, at 2,800.) Going above the limit (shifting later) puts you outside the useful torque range and is not helpful.

Seriouse power dip at low rpm

Plug gaps are incorrect. They are too tight. The gap of a plug has direct effect to ignition timing. Too tight and timing is advanced. Too fat and timing is retarded. use a decent wire gapping guage (not the 99cent key chain gapper) tool is a FEELER guage not force guage. gapped right and your problems solved.
